January Jnr Development Tournaments in doubt

Heard today that several January junior tournaments are on the verge of being called off due to duty of care with the bush fires, air quality and those trying to get to the tournament destinations. The Country Cup in Albury would defiantly be one that would cause great concern with teams coming from NSW, VIC and SA.

Received correspondence from tournament directors and Country cup is going ahead still. They will be re-evaluating this week.

Ballsy decision. Air quality in Albury is hazardous. Who can predict next week and the following weekend. Organiser wrote that he drove from melb to Albury and everything was fine. But it is a country tournament and people will drive from all over nsw and Victoria and South Australia. Clearly different for other teams who fly in. Fire danger is expected to rise again this Friday when people would be travelling.

Little known fact. Country cup is a privately owned event by high up administrators/committee. The owners hold referees ransom for no pay, they overcharge families, all in the name of development. Amazing that none of the states have stood up to them. The owners obviously still want to make money. They don't care about anyone except themselves.

Pure cash grab that unfortunately parents get sucked into as they wear state colours from SA anyway and everyone gets into a team - Ca Ching

Poor coaches, drain on finances and the only development is friendships formed which is the only benefit

Treat it as a holiday and lower expectations of future development

SA U18 Girls had to call up players as they didnt even have enough at trial. Every player wins a prize that ends up costing $1800 for 5 days of competition.

A portion of that $1800 goes to board members who get the states to pretend that it's important for development or threatening them with missing a state team if they don’t attend.

Will be interesting to see which director puts there name to any decisions. Yes been a good money maker over the years for those administrators involved, even down to making money from merchandising. Does the council provide the stadium for free? If there were no profits involved expect it would have been cancelled by now before people start flying in, driving in can still try to cancel bookings etc

Interesting that air quality in Albury is now 176 or Unhealthy range
Bright is 453 which is hazardous
Difficult conditions to be playing in
