Warriors trade D-Lo to Wolves for Wiggins

Woj:

Golden State has agreed to trade D'Angelo Russell to Minnesota for a deal that includes Andrew Wiggins, a 2021 protected first-round pick and a 2022 second-round pick, league sources tell ESPN. Warriors will send Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman to Timberwolves too.
Interesting trade. What do you think?

Warriors have now traded their top scorer for the season and the three guys who've played most games. Though obviously this is a special season for Golden State. Wiggins is thought to have one of the worst contracts in the league and not be the winning sort, but we haven't seen him with a winning team. If he has two of the supreme scorers with him, what opportunities would it create?

Some have viewed it as "trading Durant for Wiggins" though that's clearly oversimplifying things. I saw someone describe this as like getting a new, more expensive Harrison Barnes.

Definitely more the Barnes mould, however not as good defensively. If Durant couldn't handle Draymond, imagine what Wiggins will have to put up with. Has sounded like a bit of a prima donna in Minnesota. Maybe it will just be an audition and he may be packaged with their pick to land another superstar. But that contract and if he continues to pout may be really really difficult to move for a second time. But then again, going to a different culture and hopefully Kerr can bring out his best side may pay off.

If he didn't love Butler, Draymond is going to be another thorn.

Wondered if they might be ramping up Wiggins in the absence of any other talent, make him look competent and trade him on. But hard to do that with a motley crew before at least Curry is back.

Was there no better offer for Russell?

Not much point having Russell as a third string Guard once Curry & Klay Thompson return. If they are 85% of what they were pre-injury, you'd look at Warriors still being a 4th-6th West team.

Mhm so what's a projected roster for next year?

PG Curry
SG Thompson
SF Green
PF Wiggins
C ????

Swap Green and Wiggins. Looney at centre. Trade the upcoming pick if need be.

They'll be using this season to develop Paschall. Whether is good or big enough to take a starting spot remains to be seen.

If Wiggins buys in he would be a good weapon with the spacing Curry and Thompson will give him. Then it will be a matter of finding them if defence does collapse. Will be a major culture shock compared to Minnesota.
The thing with the trade that may end up being more important is the 1st rounder attached, top 3 protected I believe. If Minnesota continue to stink, that may well be another lottery pick going to GS.

PG - Curry
SG - Klay
SF - Wiggins
PF - Green
C - Looney

Then bolster the bench back to how it once was... still a good couple years left in that roster should they come back good from injuries.

Not a train wreck and Wiggins still young enough to improve in a team that will be better than the T-Wolves.

DLo now gets to play alongside a friend in KAT, next they will try for Booker.
