Breakers v Phoenix Feb 14

Top 4 finish at stake. Will this game wimper out to leave the Breakers stranded in 5th, or will this be a Valentine's Day massacre?

No Creek for SEM means someone needs to stand up. They will be looking to Madge to set the stadium on fire, but it needs to be a young gun

The Breakers are in Christchurch, so will they be like the Wizard and conjure up a win? a massive win? I think they need to win by about 20 or 30 to lock in the 4th spot. United have the luxury of playing SEM in the final game and will know how much they need to win by.

Breakers should conjure up the win but I think United's efforts last night were enough to squeeze the life out of their season, like a boa constrictor,

Breakers by 12

Cairns had one job, bloody Queenslanders hahaha.

Shame Creeks out but I expect SEM to play their hearts out and make this a contest.
Only way NZ is blowing this one out is if they shoot 60% from behind the arc which is possible with how Loe, Abercrombie, Delany, Henry and Hopson have been shooting.

NZ to win and just miss out on Finals on win/loss %

SEM's depth has been their achilles heel. Creek and Roberson have carried them more so than any two players have carried any other team.

Always possible someone steps up and SEM makes this a contest, but I'm predicting a Valentines Day massacre by 20 or more.

Breakers by 35, giving United a target of +15 against SEM

The target would likely be +16 actually

If it's based on pure margin the figure is +23.

(being United's current advantage up vs. NZ)

It's based on percentage, I believe. NZ having a conceded just under 100 points less than United, with both targeting a percentage of nearly 103% means NZ need a total margin 3 points less than United to get a similar percentage.
Would make the calculations easier if NBL used total point difference instead!

It looks complicated, but hopefully we will be told exactly what is required before last game tip off between SEM and United.

I think margin will be less than 20 today, SEM will put up a fight. Could be a Kendall Stephens sighting with Creek not playing.

United are well and truly in the box seat for fourth.

Time to unleash Terry Armstrong.

Kendall Stephens is out due to illness. Can't see Armstrong getting any meaningful time unless he has learnt how to defend better than a witches hat.

I hope NZ cover the required margin to make the final round as exciting as possible.

^ That's a big ask. Breakers would have to win by a ridiculous amount to even have a chance.

^ It is, but final round against a team down players and nothing to play for so possibility even if it is a distant one.

SEM playing well with NZ not hitting a lot from range yet.

SEM playing well, nothing to lose and trying to spoil it.
NZ shooting poorly behind the arc but decent defense from Ngatai.

Why are they playing ABBA at the game? Did someone lose a bet or something?

NZ aren't serious about playoffs if they are letting Gibbo, Court Vomiter and Pineau score 10+ each.

That's the thing about weeks. He doesnt get it.

He needs to facilitate and run the offence. Instead he looks.to create for himself. He's okay at that, not good enough to win a championship thru him.

At the beginning if the second it was hom verse. No hopson, no one else. Shamir played him too long. We.got the win but not the blowout

I agree about Weeks. He looks to create his shot too often and sometimes very early in the offence.

Well that result makes the derby on Sunday interesting. I get the feeling SEM will win and send United on holidays. Would kick up the rivalry a notch or 2!

I think far too many are assuming United will win. SEM are a good side and they showed that last night. Tomorrow's game will be a close one. I hope there’s a good turnout and if SEM did deny United a playoff spot it could exacerbate the rivalry.

I'm going for SEM, both cos they’re the underdog but also because I’ve enjoyed watching their games more than DisUnited’s.

Such a bummer losing Creek, though.

SEM play some good basketball. Where they went wrong was Benson and how long it took to replace him.

Shamir will be regretting just playing the game for the win and not for points now.
