Simmons states that Thybulle will represent Aus at Olympics

I've only read the quotes (see below), so difficult to ascertain whether there is actual substance here.

"[Matisse is] going to play for Australia," Simmons told reporters at All-Star Saturday in Chicago. "Defensively he is much better than what I thought he was going to be."

They can both be taken, one is naturalised, one received citizenship before 16.

I think there's already a role for him in the Boomers.

Tokyo should certainly be the best Boomers defence we've ever seen, with him and Simmons in addition to the World Cup guys.

With Brown in charge, Thybulle is a near certainty to play the Boomers at the Olympics. He'll be great asset coming off the bench.

This gets asked a lot, we know Cotton is naturalising but is there actually any expectation that Cotton will naturalise before the Olympics? He has what, 4 months for that to eventuate? If love to see Cotton in a boomers singlet, but surely it’s highly unlikely in 2020.

I don't care what y’all say. He’s a starter. Before I even knew he was a boomer he was one of my favourite prospects. He is going to be a DPOY one day.

Thybulle is trained to play NBA. We should not assume that his game will translate well into FIBA where systems and decision making are quite different. Also - if he does take a slot - it will be at the expense of someone who has been around the team for ages. I don't assume that just because someone plays NBA that they are a walk in into a national team. And Ben Simmons does not run our national team.

@ Red84
Agree with you re Australian first and nba isn't fiba. Simmons does run our team now imo.

Many suspect Cotton is already officially an Aussie and has his papers.

Red84, if Simmons threatens to walk out on the Boomers then he'll get what he wants. With the amount of potential embarrassment and loss of $$$ if he walks, BA will cave in on anything he wants.

I really hate when people think NBL players are players than NBA players because they play under FIBA rules.

Thybulle is regularly playing 20 mins on a NBA finals team.

Ingles and Thybulle can split the minutes at the 3 spot.

red84 is deluded. What a load of crap.

You pick the best players regardless of which rule they play under, and nba players are better than nbl players. Better skill sets, better athleticism,
better basketball IQ. There is no comparison.

I was only fixing the OP topic heading. Don't read too much into it. Tinfoil hats get itchy and uncomfortable in the Australian summer.

Ben can defend 1-4.

Thybulle defends 1-3.

Brockoff and Deng defend the 2-3.

Ingles defends only the 3.

No reason we can't all them in the team.

Deng Adel doesn't deserve to be in this conversation Toddy.

In fact Thybulle would push Adel down the pecking order.
