For comparison, only 4 of the 18 men's teams in NBL1 last year had player contracts totaling more than $80k.

Is there anywhere (outside of NZ) to watch the NZNBL? Also, how does it compare to NBL1 / QBL?

It was stronger than nbl1 last season because a fair few New Zealanders and Australian players played in it. This year the salary cap in NZ has got some top nz players opting out and more Australians playing nbl1, even Illi and Pledger staying in Australia. Qbl was behind both.

No salary cap last season, 200k this season. Some clubs run a shoe string budget, others got plenty of money. Heard that a middle road player on a wealthy team got 10k less this season. Webster Abercrombie and a few others probably won't play for peanuts. It’s a catch 22, bottom clubs spending gets closer to top clubs but quality drops due to better players looking elsewhere and top clubs can’t go over cap.
