Norwood Basketball Club - Community Help Required

Norwood Basketball Club - Community Help Required

Dear Norwood Basketball Club Member,

As a club, and like so many others, we are facing one of our toughest challenges yet.

With the cancellation of all basketball activities including our annual Easter Classic Carnival, we are reaching out to you and the rest of our community for help.

As a basketball club, the income that the club receives is made up of the following:

Norwood Flames Winter and Summer Fees
Weekly game fees for our ACBA Competition
Income received from running our Easter Classic Carnival - team registrations, merchandise, BBQ, etc.
On-going fundraising activities - Comedy Night, Bingo Night, weekly BBQ's, Bar Sales, etc.

Our Winter Fees, which represents close to 20% of the clubs annual income, were due to be sent out to families last weekend. With the uncertainty of when the season will commence, it became inappropriate for the club to send out these invoices asking families to pay for a service when a start date is unknown.

With no Winter Fees being received, no game fees from ACBA, and our requirement to refund all 185 teams who had registered for the Easter Classic, the club is facing a significant cash-flow issue. We have already sought relief from the Council, some suppliers and submitted a help request to the State Government and Basketball SA.

Unfortunately, we have some debtors who themselves are small businesses and have provided services to our Club. We are mindful of the impact our inability to pay them will have on their own livelihoods.

Finally, we have our own wonderful staff to consider.

Our staff include both Tricia and Sue, as well as our imports and coaches Mike, Derrick, CJ and Carmen.

Without our two amazing administrators Tricia & Sue, Norwood Basketball Club would cease to exist. It is a very real likelihood that without some financial support from our community their employment at the Club will not be sustainable.

We have made the extremely difficult decision to signifigantly reduce our payments to our Imports to the absolute bare minimum in the hope of being able to ride this out and keep them in the country. They have done a fabulous job in their short time at the Club so far, are fantastic assets to our Club, and it would be devastating to have to send them home.

We are reaching out to you for help. We appreciate many of you will be affected in some way by this ongoing event and understand that some of you may not be in a position to assist.

But....if you can help out in any way, we would be extremely grateful and need to come together as a community to ensure the survival of our resilient Club.

Individual Training Opportunities
with Imports & Coaches Available

We have been advised at this stage, the ARC will remain open.

I have communicated with CJ, Mike & Derrick and they have made themselves available to offer 45 minute 1-on-1 training sessions at the ARC. Carmen should be available in the very near future.

Please note the following:

These sessions are to be 1-on-1 only. No group sessions.
A $5 casual shots wristband must also be purchased from the ARC to use the courts.
The health and safety precautions implemented by the ARC must be followed.
Please exercise good handwashing hygiene and if possible, give your basketball a wipe over with disinfectant before and after the session for your safety.
If you, your child or anyone you have regualr contact with is unwell in any way, please do not attend and advise asap. Similarly, if you become unwell not long after a 1-on-1 session, please advise the Club immediately.

To book your session, please click one of the links below:
