Asian player rule?

Does the Asian player rule still apply in the nbl?

Teams should be after players like
Watanabe
Baba
Ratliffe
Martin
Etc etc

I'm sure teams know the rule and if those players were any good teams would be after them instead of hearing about them on a basketball forum. But they're not very good so teams don't sign them.

i think these guys should be outside the salary cap so even though they arent gonna set the league on fire, at least the rich teams might get them and draw more attention to the NBL.

Most of them aren't very good. The ones who are good enough make more money in China than what they'd be worth here. I don't see some random Chinese player drawing more interest to the league so even if the rule isn't scrapped, I doubt anyone applies for it.

Baba is better than most Aussie kiwi sgs, so too Watanabe at sf
Ratcliffe would win in rebounding count.

Martin would be great in the NBL, but I highly doubt he'll be coming here. If he doesn’t get drafted, he’ll play in Europe

KBL 2020-21 Salary

Ratliffe - USD$480,000 (Import player)

Shawn Long - USD$460,000 (Import player)

Ratliffe would be counted as local though according to nbl rules.

Firstly, the purpose of the rule is to encourage players from designated markets. So I highly doubt the NBL would allow it for naturalised hasbeens.

A couple of seasons back Brissy signed that Japanese guy, who was a star on their national team, and he could barely make it onto the court.

None are nbl level talents but have played several times in the nba and have put up big numbers in g league.
Ratliffe one of the best performers at the WC is not good enough... lol.

This website gives you relatively up to date national team rosters for Asia - https://www.asia-basket.com/

Getting Satnam Singh (Ex Mavs summer league - one in a billion guy - Netflix) would be huge, no pun intended. He'd be average but a good 3rd big guy.

So is Ater Majok (who now plays for Lebanon) counted as a local while playing for NZ?

They should be looking into, this more if it's not apart of salary cap and considered a local player.
If u are Melbourne or sydney you’d be stupid not too.
Asian basketball is growing fast and there are some very good players around and will be a lot more in the future.

You are kidding right? He averaged 2 points and 1 rebound off a whopping 5 min per game in the Canadian league. He also popped for a banned substance late last year.

How does that Canadian league rank up against NBL ?

Though still 2 pts a game for 5 min isn't great at all especially for someone who was on a NBA roster at one stage

Also looks like Glen Davis played a season over there might be a good pick up for a NBL team

Yuta Watanabe? This dude? Zero chance the NBL gets him.

He's a fringe NBA player and could make much more money playing overseas. Wouldn't be cheap but would be a massive steal if some NBL team manages to lure him over.

As a local, it's a steal to get these players. 2 imports, 1 next star, 1 asia, 6 Aussie/kiwi

300-400k would get him here
baba maybe 250-350
Ra 400-500
Martin 200-300

Indian guy at Kings was Amritpal Singh - novelty signing, although Drewy did give him a fair crack to get decent playing time.

He wasn't all that bad - immobile, but very big and had some big man fundamentals.

But in terms of generating interest from the Indian population of Sydney, didn't really happen. Novelty signings don't work.

Amritpal was often utilised by Drewy, when the game had been decided and the scores lopsided. I guess you could say Drewy only wanted to Singh When You're Winning.

Lindt - there two separate guys called Singh, one played in the NBL for the Kings (and was rubbish) the other played in the NBA summer league (and was rubbish).

what about the 5-7 Philipino Power Forward who squared up to Nathan Sobey, then turned, saw Thon Maker, then was all like "oh na, bruh, we good, we good"

what's he up to? He would go alright at me local (Auburn Basketball Centre) Monday night comp I reckon

Sotto to the nbl would bring in 20mill plus in jersey sales alone for the team that signs him.
Would be a good development project as a 4th -5th post player to start.

Sotto coming in to Adelaide.

What other guys should nbl go after
Melbourne keep Baba?
Someone should pickup kouame too.
The Korean g/f Lee is nbl level also.

Guam use to be but not anymore. That explains why Wesley was an import for S.E. Melbourne in their first season. All the middle eastern countries aren't included in the Asian rule too.

Yuta Watanabe would be a good signing for any NBL teams.

Even if Ratliffe could play in a NBL he wouldn't join. He even told me the contracts in the NBL are too low. If the contracts were higher Ratliffe would definitely play in the NBL. Great rebounder for any team.

Watanabe is locked in nba, he ain't going anywhere.

This seasons targets should be
Kouame-phillipines 6’11 c
Lee-Korea 6’7 g /f

Following season
Martin-phillipines
Tanaka maybe-Japan

Chinese prospects unlikely.

I think it will stay but they should include all asian players who compete in Fiba Asia. Would love to see Mohammed from Qatar. Remember that big buy hitting that 3 against the Boomers at Margaret Court Arena. Really nice dude but I think he is in his 40's now?
