Wildcats press conference

a journo in Twitter said to expect a "major" announcement today.

What do you guys think it is?

Damo retirement?
Cotton citizenship?

It'll be another signing. Possibly an import. I feel that if Damo was to retire he would've done it shortly after the GF series, due to the injury unless there's been a reoccurence.
I don't think Cotton's citizenship will come through for a few more months.

Its not likely to be an import surely.. How often are imports signed 6 months ahead of the season starting? Unless its a returning import like plumlee or something.

Has Kay signed in Europe or still holding out? If nothing firm yet, maybe he's committed to suiting with the Cats?

The fact that the tweet says Marto and Gleeson having the press conference makes me think it's Damo's retirement

You obviously weren't paying attention yesterday...

If your club is paying someone. They have been bluffed by a player. Most players understand the circumstances - some are showing their true colours right now

I hope there could be some sort of coaching role for Martin, seems to be such an aspiring person in the team.

Fingers crossed it's a new one year contract for Damo.

But sadly I feel it might be the other.
(Perhaps they need to move on another signing, which would have made this obvious??)

Still fingers crossed.

This is truly a sad day. Damo was an ICON of the Wildcats and a winner through and through.

He will make a great coach down the line if he wants it.

You don't call a press conference for that.

https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/perth-wildcats/perth-wildcats-captain-damian-martin-expected-to-announce-retirement-after-calling-press-conference-ng-b881615454z

Perth Wildcats captain Damian Martin has called a press conference for 11am today where he is expected to announce his retirement.

The six-time NBL championship winner and six-time NBL Best Defensive Player is recovering from an Achilles reconstruction which requires 12-months rehabilitation.

With the season set to begin in December and Martin turning 36 in September, the brilliant point-guard would have to wait until next year to play again.

He foreshadowed the prospect of being forced to retire at the end of last season when he revealed that his future depended on avoiding surgery.

Martin will be joined by Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson for the press conference.

Meanwhile, Illawarra captain Todd Blanchfield has seized the opportunity to sign a two-year contract with the Wildcats.

"Trev's tried to get me to Perth when I’ve been a free agent in the past," Blanchfield said.

“They’re always tough decisions to make. Right now, I feel like where I am as a player and a person, that Perth is a really good fit.

“Trev gave me the opportunity as a 17-year-old in Townsville.

“It’s going to be cool to have played my first game under Trev and now I’ll play my 300th game under Trev too.”

More to come.

He wasn't just an icon for the cats, he was an icon for the league.

The fact that the league built Goulding up instead of a proven winner for over a decade, that most people can relate to, was beyond negligent. The fact he was in Perf, and not based in the east, shouldn’t have mattered. Alas they tied themselves to a chucker who has pissed and loaned his way through a career until he finally won something.

Damo, you bloody legend.
