Duop Reath back to Serbia

With Duop Reath heading back to Serbia, what is Perth's Plan B now?

Just checked the Serbian euro site, saying he's a free agent. Is this fake news, or is he trying to screw for money?

Was he plan A?
Training with Perth and discussing opportunities doesn't mean he will sign.

He's entering the third year of the three year deal he signed with them out of college. He was never an option for Perth. It's Motum or bust for them

I don't know if it was an option or a plan.
In part, he was always going to "just train" with the Wildcats whilst back home in Perth. There was a RUMOUR he was trying to get out of his Serbian contract, and/or that the Wildcats were considering a buyout.
Plus I suppose that with Covid there was always the chance that Serbia would shut down.
Whether or how much Perth were interested, I guess like a lot of things we'll never know. Good Luck Duop!

Either way, I guess that's one less "option" off the list for Perth.
Blanch has filled the 2/3 spot, so that leaves a 1, 4, & 5!

And yeah, I'm starting to worry. I guess everything will be fine, but really waiting to see what they do.

Cotton naturalising has gone from Bonus, to Nice, and now to a necessity.
Norton can start, and whilst he's no Damo, its not the end of the world. But who's the backup? If its Britt, then we're very shallow at the 1.
Have to wait and see what Blanch can do with his new opportunity, but whilst having a local is great, it too is not an upgrade on a Prather or White.
Getting the right Kay replacing import PF is critical, and then we still need someone to start at Centre.

Reach is listed as a free agent by his Serbian team on euro baskets.

Reath will be a FA and be able to play for Wildcats if the Serbian season hasn't started by September. That’s what they are waiting for.

sportando - Crvena Zvezda signs Duop Reath

Australian big man set to make Euroleague debut.
ABA Liga and Euroleague side Crvena Zvezda has announced the signing, for next season, of Australian big man Duop Reath.

Reath comes off two seasons with Serbian side FMP. He averaged 11.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, shooting 43.2% from three, in 2019-20.

At least that proves he was a free agent. Serbia doesn't pay the mega dollars but still far better than nbl. Kay would be on excellent coin in Spain.

Red Star owns FMP, the team Reath played for the past two years. They are both based in Belgrade and are joined at the hip. They often sign players to flexible contracts with team options that allow them to play them with either team depending on their preference, sometimes in the same season. Reath was signed to a three year deal and Red Star decided to pick up the team option on his third year some time ago. Perth tried to pay a significant buyout for Reath a while back but that never went anywhere since Red Star was intent on keeping him.

Being able to shoot the 3 reliably was something that would have given the cats a new dimension at centre. They have been successful with the old school centre but internationally the centre is moving more towards what Reath has and less what Plumlee has.

At momement not screaming a lot of depth at the cats for sure and major starting 5 pieces not filled.

Red Star needed a "cheap" big and they got Reath, which is not cheap in Aus terms. Good luck to him, great opportunity!

And FMP is not in Belgrade.

FMP is based in Zeleznik, a neighborhood in Belgrade. The full name of their team is... FMP Belgrade (https://www.aba-liga.com/team/17/20/1/0/fmp/).

FMP merged with Red Star in 2011 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/KK_FMP

Ask those in Belgrade whether they consider that suburb as Belgrade. There's a clear distinction between places like Zeleznik and Umka from Belgrade/New Belgrade, and even these two are considered different - long story. And indeed they share the same post code. The team itself wasn't from Zeleznik but it moved to attract attention of those in power, originally from Novi Sad.
