McDowell-White turns down NBL offers for G-League

Australian guard William McDowell-White has opted to return to the NBA G-League for the 2020-21 season, after turning down multiple offers to play in the NBL.

McDowell-White, 22, garnered significant interest from across the Australian league while basing himself in his home state of Queensland during the COVID-19 pandemic, but said a return to the G-League is what he believes will help him earn an NBA contract.

"After speaking to a number of NBL clubs, I've decided to head back to the States and pursue the NBA this season," McDowell-White told ESPN. "Last year's NBA Summer League and training camp with the Houston Rockets was an invaluable experience for me, so I look forward to building on that."

Hate to say it Will, but you're not going to come close to the NBA pal. Good luck to you though.

Has been playing ok in QLD's revised State League, but nothing close to NBA performances lol.

Best part about watching Harry Froling and Will White play in QSL was Verle Willams .

If those two had half the ticker that kid has they would walk into the NBA.

Does he have family or a partner in the states? I can appreciate players wanting to give it a serious crack (Mitch Creek the other year) even if it costs them a year of pro salary, but it sounds like WMW is not yet at that level and wasn't putting up noticeable G-League stats. Surely guys like Creek and Magnay have shown that you can take the pro salary until you establish your talents and then have a crack? Ingles and Broekhoff also.

But if he had living arrangements over there and got the G-League USD, maybe it's not miles off what he could be offered in the NBL?

Agreed Isaac WMW wouldn't command a big contract in the NBL so it makes sense why his stock in the US is currently at it's height to go back for another year and hope like hell an NBA team sees something in you.

He'll likely be back in the NBL or something similar this time next year.

When In the last 5-6 years have we seen him produce at world class level that justifies the hype? It's always been the potential tag.
Potential has a shelf life.
Not being a dick, just honestly can’t remember any head turning performances alas Simmons at college etc

Great player, needs a boot up the behind though, not a great competitor.
Would need a very stern coach.

Probably earning pittance in the g league.

A talented junior who hasn't progressed at the professional level.
Might be an nbl benchie sometime down the track.

Not sure what the hate is all about.
Best time to go to g league with cut price contracts, he's 22 ffs.
He was injured a lot last year, let’s see how much time he gets this year.

The guy is averaging in the qsl against other current nbl players...

27.5 pts
12.5 rbds
7.75 asts
48.78% fg
87.5% ft
34.78% 3 pt

Top 5 in almost every stat.

Serious athletic talent. Untimely injuries hurt his chances while in Europe.

But you can appreciate why many question whether he can translate that talent to the pro-level. Hope it works out for him.

Hit post too soon...

He got some good experience last season in the G League, and now is getting some PT which is exactly what he needed, in the QSL. Hope he can translate that to a successful G League stint and hopefully realise that potential.
