Thunder and Donovan mutually part ways.

Looks like the surprising Thunder stuffed up their tanking effort by making playoffs and scapegoat for success is Billy. Really expect the team to be broken up now. CP has great trade value now despite contract, didn't pout or complain but led them to nearly knocking off rockets. Expect the Bucks to come calling after their failed postseason. And would expect Adams and Gallinari to be next on trading block, Celtics have need for big and a few first rounders to offer. And shooters are always wanted so expect Gallinari to be moved.
Wonder if there's a straight swap in coaches, Brown used to a rebuilding process and Donovan might be automatic fit in Philadelphia.

This is why the NBA is becoming a laugh...its clear this team played hard and looked pretty well coached but its clear management aren't happy they competitive and made the play offs?

OP Do you have an understanding of the salary cap? Theres no way the bucks can take that contract and keep most of the group they had assembled this season and Paul doesn't move the needle enough for them to win a title compared with what is there. Also taking on Paul's contract means paying more luxury tax when it comes to resigning Giannis next year on a supertax which small market teams hate paying.

Post above, no articles actually mention why he left? It could be that he doesn't enjoy the grind of the NBA and wants to return to the college ranks. He has history of returning to college over the NBA see Orlando 2007.

Parted ways mutually, supposedly. In reality as an OKC fan you never felt your coach had the tactical advantage. Was likely on big dollars to be lured from gators programme, to make KD happy. With the revenue in NBA down, with the reality of a rebuild and no star players demands to meet, why pay him, especially when as an NBA head coach, he really didn't stand out. NO Stevens, Spo or Nurse that’s for sure

Seems an odd decision after the great year they had

The Bucks could take CP3, but it would mean losing a bunch of their contracted players. Hill, R Lopez, Bledsoe, Ilyasova would work. Can't see OKC wanting any of them so likely a 3rd (or more) team would need to be involved.

It would leave the Bucks with a team of something like:

CP3, Divincenzo, Middleton, Giannis, B Lopez, and then hope they can sign their free agents to cap friendly deals, Matthews, Connaghton, Brown.

Can't really see it happening.

I think a more likely outcome would be the Sixers entering desperation mode, acquiring CP3 for a package around Horford and some of their young assets.

Was just about to mention the elements of that trade to the genius that replied to my original post. Someone else would take Hill off Thunders hands, Lopez can replace Adams if they really blowing it up, Bledsoe and Ilyasova odd men out but probably could organise some sort of buyout with them.
OKC were looking at repeating their rebuilding by tanking which ushered in the Durant, Westbrook and Harden era, starting this year. Somehow despite the odds they made playoffs. They were hoping to offload Paul for something but everyone was scared off by his salary, but his performance has made him a valuable commodity again. Adams should attract a first rounder as well as Gallinari.
Better bottoming out and getting picks because they're not going to attract the top free agents. Otherwise they will sit in middle of draft with the only hope of packaging their multiple picks for moving up or a young star. Hopefully they don't stuff up like they did with the original big 3.

Yeah I definitely agree it is in the Thunder's best interests to try to move Paul, Adams and Gallo for young players and picks.

There's only a few teams that can legit deal with Paul's contract and have any interest in it though, so they might just need to take whatever they can for him.

With a number of other job's opening up he supposedly sort clarity from the team on the direction they were going in and was told the rebuild will begin next season and guys like Paul, Stevens & Schroder will be traded so it pretty much was his decision as he's not interested in the losing seasons ahead being on his resume.

The talk is they're looking seriously at Kenny Atkinson who has a proven track record with rebuilding teams and that Donovan is interested in the Bulls job.

CP3 to 76ers for Horford and bit parts....6ers have the picks to entice this trade

First move should be Paul to anywhere. LeBron would find a way to have a trade made. Because he is the rules. perhaps a 4 or 5 team trade is made to land LAL Paul with Kuzma going to OKC and a flurry of others caught in the crossfire going wherever. Salaries would have to match also.

Adams and a pick or two from all the picks acquired should go to Sacramento for Buddy Hield. Sacramento had an interest in Adams last year, to fix their torrid depth at C, with him being a clear upgrade over Holmes. Holmes and Giles off the bench can provide depth to Adams and Bagley and Giles will of course be able to develop and learn under an excellent bloke in Stevo, though theyre polar opposites. Hield came from the Bahamas or Jamaica straight to OU, spent 4 years there and loved it.

Gallinari a FA. Most likely wouldnt stay. Watch him go to Miami if they cant strike gold elsewhere on trades/FA stars.

OKC start a rebuild with a starting 5 of something like Shai, Hield, Dort (yes, they always start a defensive guy who cant shoot), Bazley and Noel or a decent FA Center with Kuzma as a 6th man, you;ve probably got 25 wins in the West which is what they want. Hield, Gilgeous, Bazley andd Kuzma could be the store brand attempt at a Russ-Harden-KD-Jeff Green type thing again. bu, full well knowing its not gonna reach that peak.

I'm predicting that roughly 0% of the above actually happens.

^ yep.

Thats life.

OKC have been a historically (well, for 11 years) unpredictable team. Any time theyre set to keep someone, they lose them or trade them, any time they find their footing, they slip and any time they make a trade they seem to get another hall of famer on the roster.

They do a good job of keeping their fans on their toes, but this time, seems like they are genuinely gunning for a rebuild, as in lose 50+ games next season, draft inside the top 10 and have a bunch of kids play. 2008 OKC anyone?????

We all remember how that went.
