Will Smith NBL1 GM at Norwood

Big news from the club claiming to be the biggest in SA but does Norwood have any players left for NBL1 ?

What does that mean? NBL GM?

If there is a full time NBL1 GM then Norwood continues to waste Juniors money. I also see North has appointed Liam Flynn. There appointment seems more about juniors.

Gotta love the Rockets ambitious vision...they are looking National....Global.
Scary how big this club is becoming before our eyes.
Jantke & Flynn combo at club level is huge, everyone else is playing for 2nd place.

Haha, didn't Jantke take the unbeatable North team to second place yesterday at state championships.
Everyone else playing for 2nd place LMAO!
Now you have a guy that sold half the clubs in Adelaide a blueprint for success a few years back, ripping off the suckers at lightsview. But that's amazingly secondary to a bullshit job title at Norwood, nbl1 general manager, that has recruiting players to its senior side in job description. Or in other words, make sure the Webbers keep their positions.
What a joke!

Liam is a great get for North. Looks like the role covers many aspects but improving what is already a strong junior program seems the focus.

One of Norths main players is already at COE & one has just left to join him....& there will be more.
If they had the full team they would've romped in. Obviously looking to bigger things than State based titles.
Knock Jantke all you like...him & Flynn together is a frightening combination......2 Guys that absolutely know the game inside out.....are driven & relentless & have national & global contacts....the Rockets program is already 5+ years advanced from everyone as we speak...& that gap will widen weekly.
Stunning coup from the club....Sturt must be shellshocked...2 of their very best taken right under their noses & powerless to stop it.
Ouch.

691, they did have the full team last time they played, and they didn't win then either.

You also realise that the one that has just left to join him was back and playing on the weekend right?

I think Jantke would be embarrassed at the way 691 is carrying on and making excuses. Andrew is way above that.

Thanks to someone's mum or dad.. Never heard so much crap and equally it's SA and doesn't rate.
"...are driven & relentless & have national & global contacts....the Rockets program is already 5+ years advanced from everyone as we speak...& that gap will widen weekly." You can't be serious. Please play an NBL1 team (IE the Spectres) from a League that counts.

Yeah, Sturt had a lot they could do. One abandoned them because their boys program wasn't looking too good so jumped ship to another club with more talent and managed to stuff that up.
And the other went because of money.
Ouch! And as pointed out they had 1 player missing, last time they played they lost by even more with full team.

The gloating 691 is clearly trolling and not even a North person.

The North group have a lot of time/respect for that Southern team and certainly aren't making any excuses. Both teams would have been extremely competitive at Classics if there had been one.

Congrats Will Smith and Liam Flynn. Both clubs are better from each acquisition.

If there is one positive from Covid 19 it is that both are in SA working locally.

Will is a great guy but what a weird job - NBL1 General Manager. And Full Time as well. This is either a genius move that will become a model that others will follow or the train wreck most people expect it to be. Time will tell.

If Will doesn't last 1 season with the Flames - this will tell you there is something seriously wrong within the club. Will is a very well seasoned basketball individual and I'm surprised he's not the NBL1 coach - maybe on the books for next season. Time will tell.

End of the day you can put any fancy job title on a position, but it looks like a glorified JDO with some senior responsibilities. I think they can afford it now having finished with paying the previous incumbent out. With the current mess in the senior ranks it will see what power Smith does have there. Will he be able to right the boat in terms of the Webbers having too much power, surely he knows they are the major cause of problems there. Was it more an appointment of the rest of the committee vs the president. And stories on this forum suggest the men's coach has some issues as well. The term general manager suggests he has some pull, if he see's something that isn't right, does he have the power to rectify it or does it have to go to the president where it will be swept under the carpet as usual.

Smith is one of the nicest, quietest, humble guys you will meet. Follows direction well and works hard. Good basketball brain. But I think the leadership went after their guy for a reason.

You're right, not a North person...& you’re wrong, not trolling or gloating.
Just admiring from afar....motto for success is "don’t get the best available, get the best." & the Rockets are certainly doing that....the flow on effect for other clubs here is great because it lifts the profile of the game & gets people talking...clubs start looking within to see how they can improve to keep pace...improvement comes across all areas.
That Southern team are very well respected & admired for what they’ve done so far, it’s great medicine for the Tigers after some recent struggles off court.
My point is they have 2 players...the Guard & the Centre who are outstanding...take those 2 out & the team would lag...the Rockets roster is deep...take their 2 best out & the team is still very hard to beat....which is what gets sustainable success.
Might be wrong, but just an observation. & it is a shame these teams couldn’t get to a Classics...agree they would’ve been great.... might’ve even met in the Final.

All good 712.

Just didn't want your opinion to come out as North 18s not giving credit to where credit is due to Southern Tigers.

One would assume from your post that you were North.

Seems an odd appointment. Other than ball hogging, throwing backward 3 point heaves from 3/4 court and denying Carlton the rock, whilst at Bel Air Academy, what has he really done?

712 you're clueless if you think without the two players Southern are nothing, you think they beat a full strength North team by 25 with no one good off the bench. Please pipe down and stop embarrassing yourself.

Nothing will fix the issues at Norwood when the so called board consists of 2 Webber's and Keenihan. Good luck to anyone brave enough to take on a role at that club.

It's like the American election. Everyone hates Trump apparently. Speaking to parents from Norwood they feel the same way about members of current board. But people still don't vote. If I hear a parent or even player whinge, the first thing I say is did you vote at AGM, to which they say no. From memory there was a dodgy extraordinary AGM recently. But really have no time for the whiners that forsake a chance to make a change. The only way to change that club is to go red wedding style and get rid of certain people. What needs to happen is to get invested people interested, campaign the disillusioned and make it happen. I was once a member, one of few to vote but since so many didn't, the status quo remained the same.
If Smith is to do any good, he has to report honestly to the board all of the nepotism there is currently. No one wants to go there and join the towel waiving bench. Current mens coach seems to be a nutcase and based on stories, parents stood up to his behavior. What's to be done with that.
How long before Smith either quits due to not having real power or sits back and is defeated and just cashes the cheques?
But as they're urging in America, if you want change, VOTE! Not just talk about it.

Can any parent involved in Norwood vote?

I believe any parent that has a fully paid up junior district player can vote at any AGM as a member, as well as adult players and coaches. It should be in their constitution, which from memory confirms it. But then again, their last extraordinary AGM was illegal on a number of counts. And this had better not be deleted.

I suggest you read the latest Constitution of Norwood. While it looks all nice and legal there are elements which are not supportive of good governance. AGM's limited time prescribed elements, special general meetings requiring attendance by 40% if all meetings for a quorum otherwise meeting is dissolved, and no restrictions on related persons on the Board. Many constitutions only allow for one person from a family to be on the Board. Norwood has no such restriction and has a majority of the voting members related. Good luck changing things especially when any new individual members requires ratification by the Board
The Board also can appoint up to two non elected members

Am I saying something is wrong with management of the Club? I’m in no position to determine that but in my opinion the Constitution and the rules surrounding Board structure is flawed

Fairly sure to become a voting member you have to pay for membership.

Also don't believe change will ever happen until Norwood actually get rid of poorly performing coaches and promote coaches with successful records even if they don't agree with the powers that be.

^Apart from life members that should be true, but paying fees either as a parent or senior player, as well as volunteering as a coach should automatically qualify you as a voting member.
And as I've said before, if you view the current board like Trump, VOTE! Don't whinge, change the system. And if you have credentials and time, nominate for the committee, especially president.

Will Smith needs to be given full autonomy if he's going to have any chance rebuilding the Norwood Flames and bring back some integrity. And the review starts from the top, right through to the coaches and ultimately the players.

The Fish Rots from the Head so if the Board needs a flush out, then so be it!
