Scott Hopson to United?

It's been reported for a while that United have been chasing him hard. Hopson just recently started following Melb United on Instagram. He doesn't follow any other NBL team on the platform.

Does United actually do any scouting themselves, or just throw money at other teams successful imports?

This is the funny thing. I posted Hopson and Beasley the other day for shits and giggles. Absolutely made up. Now someone is referencing it. Never change Hoops :)

Players move from team to team all the time.

And it's not 'rich' teams only.

Illawarra scored MVP Cedric Jackson and MVP Elbows, and Jordair Jett.

Cairns...Newbill.

Brisbane....Craig, Trice

Adelaide....Moore.

Sure, but Melbourne have a history of poaching players. From the Breakers especially.

Well why wouldn't you poach players? You've seen they've had success in this league, and you make the educated assumption they will go on to fit in in your team.

^ sure, when you have significantly more money than other teams. Not all teams can afford to do that.

Yep, all the teams with huge cabs flow were lining up for Cedric, Conk & Jordair. Hence why the cashed up hawks nabbed them.

I guess this will make united favourites, as usual.

I guess you could say United poached Long. But Hopson wasn't wanted at the Breakers.

Melbourne did the same with Melo Trimble.

Hopson’s a class act but his handling is loose, he’s not a great 3pt shooter and he can be inconsistent. I guess that’s why he hasn’t stuck around the NBA and also why I feel the Breakers upgraded him with Patterson. To be honest, I think Melbourne could do better than Hopson.

Hopson was wanted by NZ and had a contract offer on the table for some time.
They elected to not gamble on waiting for Hopson when Lamar Patterson expressed interest.
I expect he'll sign for United.

Hopson was definitely wanted at the Breakers.

What is considered poaching?

If a player is out of contract, can he sign with a higher tier club without accusations of ring chasing? Or the club accusations of poaching?

Wasn't that long ago that United had 2 imports in Ware and Boone who went to other clubs as well...

Isn't watching a player achieve success at another team the definition of scouting?

When you selectively quote, even you can make a case for United being winners.

Here let me help you....

Every season the United tries to buy a title but in the end Perth ends up hoisting the trophy

The guy said every season. Whilst he was obviously wrong, he is more right than wrong to the tune of 4 to 1.

NBL teams are really only 7-8 deep this year.

The following players are anus - Short, McDaniel, Peatling, Baba. Really only Ili, White and Acuil off the bench really deserving of a role at this level.

How is baba anus?
Starting sg for Japan and just came from g league.
You have no clue.

Not sure I would be referring to one of Japan's best players, signed by an NBA team 12 months ago and played in the G-League last season as 'anus'.

Obviously Perth is the benchmark in the NBL. Sherlock told me that.

But several other teams spend big, not just United. Incision Perth too.

And United is the clear #2 boys in the NBL.

Title/runner up/screwed out of the semis by 2 pts against a bigger spending team. Over 3 years that record puts United as the clear number 2 in the Vickerman era.

Let's see if United can make a claim at Alpha Dog spot this year
