Opals Jan 2021 Camp

with Chemist Warehouse Opals head coach Sandy Brondello currently in North Queensland observing the 2020 WNBL season, this 7-day camp which is set to run 3 - 10 January inclusive, provides the perfect opportunity for coaching staff and players alike to have invaluable face time ahead of a busy 2021, which includes the Olympic Games and 2021 FIBA Women's Asia Cup.

Due to playing commitments abroad and quarantine for inbound arrivals, at this stage the following squad members won’t be attending the camp in January: Rebecca Allan, Tiana Mangakahia and Jaz Shelley. Alanna Smith is currently rehabbing following recent surgery and will not be available for this camp.

Probably should have added a few more weeksprospects in.
Kunek also should be on the list.

Just to clarify, the list above is not mine - it is the official Opals squad.

Personally I don't think it needs to be any bigger, but with several players unavailable for the camp (including Kunek & Bishop) giving Froling an invite wouldn't be a bad idea.

Whether you like it or not, she's one for the future, Cambage will be gone after home WC, bunton is retired, Tolo will be done, that’s why Scherf has been in camp the last 2 times.
Averaging 11/7/4/1 90%ft, 38% 3pt ain’t terrible. Her fg% ain’t great.

The only other is Mckay averaging 7/6/2/1 65%ft

Australian Opals coach Sandy Brondello invigorated by talent on display in 2020 WNBL season

"One thing that's stood out to me this season is the physical condition coming from lockdown, the great shape the players are in," Brondello said.
"I'm looking predominately at the Opals but also the up-and-comers too and how they have no fear.
"Players are getting [the] opportunity and the only way you can gain confidence is from playing against the best.
"We know what the Opals can do but it's been a great evaluation for me seeing the new faces. Alex Sharp, Alex Ciabattoni, Megan McKay have come back from college

Seeing asthough so many will be missing from camp, it would be good to add a few more to get some exp. they might not all make it to the senior squad but a few will.

From wnbl..
Reid
Wehrung
Sharp
Froling
Maley
Ernst
Mckay
Scherf

Did Cambage turn up to camp? She's noticeably absent from the insta stories of the rest of the squad...

Kunek and Bishop are both delivering big in Europe.

Bishop's time may have passed her by with the national team however, but I really think Kunek should be a strong contender for the final 12.

Cabbage will tell anyone that will listen that she is not playing this year , waiting for BA to beg her to play.

Heal was a no show at Camp as well , her focus is all about WNBA draft
