Remember when we signed Johnson, then sacked him and hired that G-League guy, then he left and we brought JJ back. Really felt like we were hard up...
Even that year when we clamoured for a 3rd import, the decision not to seemed like a budget constraint.
Cats obviously spend heavily, traditionally one of the big spenders. Then at times seem constrained..., until they don't.
Obviously locking in Cotton cost them a bundle, especially in this screwed up season. Hard to say about the others, but I highly doubt any of Mooney, Blanch, or White, are getting paid anywhere near the players they replaced.
Keep in mind that when Cofton naturalises, he becomes their (#1) Marquee, so his tax impact is slashed.
They COULD be keeping some coin up their sleeve for a stud import.
But that strategy also relies on said import becoming available at the right time. As did Cotton and Plumlee.
So could be this guy, or some previously untouted guy who gets cut from Europe, Asia, or even the NBA.
Are teams still allowed up to 4 Marquees? Ie 2 imports plus 2 marquees?
If so, that still remains a possibility, in an Aussie gets cut elsewhere.
Start of the season is going to be interesting. I'm eager to see what frontcourt combos other coaches are using, and how well we can hold our own.
