SYD v ADL Feb 21

The weather's pretty inconsistent in Melbourne and that's perfect for possibly the two most inconsistent teams in the league. Both lose games they should win, and then win those they should lose. Whoever goes in as favourite, pick the other if you want some coin from Sportsbet.

My Tip: don't over dribble

Underestimate Ware, Didi, Newley and Vasiljevic at your peril.

While their big man depth will be tested, their smalls and wings are strong enough to keep them competitive and Bruce, Hunter and Moller play their roles well.

They will surprise teams and while I expect the Sixers to win today I won't be surprised if Sydney beat them.

Realistically the Kings shouldn't have a chance without Martin but the Sixers often play down to their opponents so I could see our bigs either not exploiting the hole inside or getting in early foul trouble. I still expect Adelaide to win but don't think it will be as comfortably as it should be.

So fed up with incredibly poor recruiting of imports at the start of every recent season for Adelaide. How can you compete with basically no imports? Pathetic that they need to be replaced almost every year.

Sixers are showing what it's going to be like for rest of season, after big home stand.
And Rookie of Year looks to be Vasiljevic's. Those years of experience playing in ACC shows up Giddey's lack of any. Giddey may have bigger upside, but DJ is a great shooter and competitor.

What a waste of a season this is turning out to be. The one year we have Josh Giddey and Isaac Humphries together and we're just pissing it away. I'm getting sick of these absolutely gutless 15-20 point losses.

Two poor import signings, the Kendle fk up, Pinder being a space cadet and Henry not being able to implement any real structure means we need Brandon Paul to be our saviour and no genuinely good team should need saving from a new guy.

We should've won this game today by a handsome margin and got pumped, again.

Time to hit the panic button Sixers. The recruiting of an injured Kendle is simply stupid. Obviously no due diligence done there. And it's obvious Henry isn't picking the players. Would be a frustrated man. Watch him take the heat when this season goes to shit and others distance themselves. Body language on the bench is a disgrace, obvious internal issues. Stop turning the keys over to an 18 year old who is no doubt talented, but he's still 18 years old.
New import will help but the damage is done. Team harmony is non existent and you have a group of pissed off players right now.
Mcveigh - unhappy
Dillon - unhappy
Teys - unhappy
Crocker - unhappy
Mudronja - unhappy
Pinder - dumb

Good luck winning with that crew, and they STILL haven't played the big boys yet.

Cheap imports and a cheap coach with an egotistical GM who believes he is God's gift to recruitment. This was always going to end badly once the Sixers hit the road.

The basic facts are that almost half the roster wouldn't have a position on most teams, import selections were poor and we’re relying on a talented 18 year old rookie to run the offence who would have been playing around 20 minutes a match who has been forced to play much more because of poor roster decisions. The writing was on the wall just from the playing roster before the season even started.

JVG has become a massive fraud. He is a politician who has a woeful import history. Takeout the bullets ring which had a millionaire owner bank rolling the team with no salary cap; what has he actually done? Some of his recent imports have been absolutely woeful - the Adelaide roster on paper is one of the worst in nbl - those imports he started with were barely NbL1 quality.

I agree with what you said about JVG but disagree with this bit. IMO, the roster on paper was much better than most were giving credit for even with the 2-3 Teys types at the end of the bench.

Humphries when given opportunities dominated in the G-League which is why we paid him big money to lure him here, Giddey is expected to be a 1st round pick in the NBA this year, Dech was a nice 3 & D player at the Hawks last season and Sloan is an ex-NBA veteran still young enough to presume to be a very good player.

36s have absolutely no depth, that's the major issue and this will be reflected in the results going forward.
Teys..Pinder...Mudronja are not NBL standard players, not even close. When you are carrying 3 players, you get exposed which is exactly what’s happening.

I think our mistakes were held onto Sloan for way too long. I said before the NZB double that is he still isn't performing by then we should cut him and we persisted with him bringing him off the bench for a couple of games and then a third game he missed due to injury.

Then we compounded that with the Kendle signing who was injured on arrival mist his first game with us, played in the second and then out injured again for his third game with us. Paul will need to do two weeks quarantine upon arrival so he won't be available until March.

As we've already chewed through our opening 7 game stand at home and 8 of our first 9 games at home our season will likely be on life support by the time Paul is able to play anyway.

Agreed Zodiac, 100%. No structure, no plan B and if Isaac and DJ don't score, we don’t score. Two crap imports and a coach I’m not convinced is up to it.
Is there any chance the team that drafts Josh gets him to play another NBL season? I love his game, big fan but I’m not sure he’s gonna be ready. Probably wishful thinking.
What the hell is Pinder doing playing NBL? How the hell did JVG think Crocker, a 34 year old, was going to get it done?

Probably doesn't follow the system or something.

I think Brandon Paul can make a world of difference - we need someone that can spread the floor and punish double teaming behaviour of IH/DJ and clogging the rim.

That will make Adelaide more competitive.

To be top 4, they’d have needed Crocker to be better a better version of himself, a Terrico white type, and Pinder be less like Pinder and more like a player that can defend and not turnover the ball

Underestimate Ware, Didi, Newley and Vasiljevic at your peril.

This was a very good, early call...

Agree with most of the criticism, and it's tough to be losing, but being able to keep the team motivated and energised is on the coaching staff and team leadership... McVeigh has talent but when he's on, he seems to be out for him... All good things to help the team win, but it seems to be motivated to get his numbers as he seems to see himself as better than what his playing minutes would suggest (and he probably is?) Is he in a contract year?

Imports were a giants balls up, but the worst thing was bringing JVG in... That guy is a cancer and shouldn't be involved in any NBL team again if they know what's good for him...

Giddey is really struggling with the adjustment all teams have made on him - basically sagging way off and cutting off passing lanes, reminds me of what NBA teams used to do against Rubio when he was a rookie. He looks good going to the basket and hitting the glass, but also feels like he was really trying to force things every time he had the ball last night and had a couple of absolute stinkers re: passing the ball directly to the other team.

Mudronja , Teys and McVeigh were loyal to Joey and are managed by a group different to who JVG prefers and so dont get minutes they show they are worthy of.

DJ is too much talent to get caught up in that pettiness

Teys is on last legs... McVeigh is harshly treated... got to reward and embrace a energy burst player. Muddy seems to be the lost dinner plate in the dining setting... fearful more cracks will appear... .mud and McVeigh provide robust hyper positive vibes which coach says team lacks.. no coach not receptive to cosmic energies around him.. even old man sting ray tays is connected and responds if allowed to strutting the hardie planks.... game is played 90% in mental space..

You have to do more than chest pumping up and down the floor, yes McVeigh has reasonable scoring patches, this coaching crew want defensively minded players first, certainly while Johnson is on the floor. McVeigh is a 3/2, struggles to mark fours and even the larger threes. He has to work on that, it's not easy, takes time and he has progressed this season. Joey was a total different kettle of fish and it will take time for Sixers, still a chance of finals but were never really given a chance at seasons start.

Angus, I think that is more of an indictment on lack of shooters to open the floor than Giddey - it would be good if he knocked more down and attempted more drives however I think he has done a very good job not forcing it and playing within himself. We are much better with him on the floor and the way we operates with the bigs is precisely what we want.

The issue really is how do we stop teams clogging the passing lane close to the basket?

Answer: have those shooters to punish and reopen the floor. That's what Sloan and Crocker and Dech and mcVeigh and to an extent DJ were meant to do.

B Paul will be vital, if he demands the almost double team, that gives Crocker/Dech/McVeigh wide open opportunities if they move the ball right then they just need to knock those shots down.

Can’t defend double team IH and DJ and Paul so you have to either make life easier for the shooters or for IH/DJ. If you lag off Giddey, well he can still drive and shoot.

The issue then lies in what to do when IH is on the bench, defensively screwed. This is why I’d say bringing in Paul and more time for McVeigh as a shooter at the expense of Mudronja, Teys, Dillon will make 36ers competitive with the best. For lack of an extra defensive big man or DJ learning defence and Crocker not being Terrico White - makes Adelaide not top 4 material
