ILL v NZB Feb 22

Another day, another 2 games. First up, The Mighty Hawks vs The Mighty Breakers. NZ are stuck on the bottom of the table like a bloke stuff in the friend zone. If they want to get out, they need to work really hard. Hands up who's managed to get out the Friend Zone....
Hawks were pipped by the Snakes in a game they controlled all night. They shouldn't make the same mistake again, eh bro

Hard to see NZ taking this one.
DP Kyrin Galloway has been added to the playing roster with the departure of Rob Loe.
NZ will need big games from their under performing imports to have a chance.

Hawks by 16.

They need big games from the Websters esp assists to Abercrombie and Delaney. Patterson is slowly running into form except for his 3 which is far from money. So get to the hoop/line and kick outs.

This could be a tricky contest for the hawks, nz still have a lot talent, which you would think won't lie dormant for ever. Can Adel start to earn the money they are paying him? If he can hawks should win. I’m tipping an upset though as I think nz can win a very close one.

If Adel is in the starting line up again then Gorg needs a good kick up the bum for being silly enough to start him.

AJ only played 8 minutes vs Cairns so I wonder is he carrying an injury.

Bairstow is starting to play better and Deng Deng played really well the other night so he should get more minutes.

Harvey, Froling and Jessup are the key but they need more help from the others.

The mental health of the breakers appears to be deteriorating. Does the NBL really need to keep the players locked up in the hotels? Does the NBL have a duty of care towards players mental health? Looi is the first casualty but will there be more that decide to head home as the season goes on?

#541 it didn't appear to affect the 800 blokes who played AFL and were locked much longer than 28 days

when did they have to relocate to another country?

Because Australia is so much different too NZ. All 10 Victoria moved out for the entire season after round 5.

I'm not certain you pay a marquee price for Adel and then start him off the bench. Maybe the nbl could start mid season trades, trade players in and out, Adel to Sixers for McVeigh. Example only.

Adel has already started from the bench when he came back from injury so yes you can.

He struggles to defend for a start and his shot selection is poor he just seems to just want to throw it up without any thought of passing to a better option.

He has disrupted the team flow and imo is a rather poor signing.

No one said that it didn't.

If you follow some of the Breakers players on social media they're definitely struggling.

The Breakers have also been dealing with a lot of uncertainty. First, they're away from home for the foreseeable future and meant to be based in Melbourne (bad idea). Then, they're based in Tassie. Then, they're stuck in Adelaide. If they were just locked down from the beginning in one place that may have been better.

Lastly, there are no other teams other than the Breakers in the same situation.

It will be interesting to see how this one goes. The Breakers looked much better last round and nearly got the W. The Hawks are looking shaky, but the Breakers are shakier. Hawks by 5, but not surprised at all if the Breakers get the W.

The afl had a cast of thousands up there including most players family. Anyone who thinks this is a doddle has NFI.

If NZ had come over into a bubble things would have been so much better.
One state, one set of rules. Instead they are living out of suitcases in a constant state of isolation to satisfy inter-state travel.

Pretty shit situation, especially for the guys who have families and it's not going to get any easier moving forward.

Wellington in the A league have settled on the south coast and play out of Win stadium and the locals have taken them in with open arms so for them it hasn't been easy also.

On the Hawks being shaky its still a very new youngish team that's still learning. Expectations should never have been that high even with Gorg as coach.

If they can finish with a better then 50% win ratio I would be more then happy with that.

@Perthworld and Perth fan, is this your first time being exposed to time zones? You live in Perth, deal with it and get used to it.

Oh lord...feel sorry for Loe, must be tough for the NZ Breakers.

Abercrombie has young kids as well.

Props to them for making the best of the season though.

It's probably their first time being exposed to a game in Melbourne starting at 5pm on a weekday.

Maybe, but has been plenty of times where games have started at 2.30pm Perth time on weekdays when being played on a Wednesday/Thursday/Friday in NZ so not an entirely new concept to them. Perth aren't even playing in this game, so the NBL really doesn't have to worry about scheduling for their convenience.

Cameron Luke is woeful, he's talking T Webster up like he’s Jordan, his D is non existent. Delaney struggling at present on both ends. Goorj got all answers so far. Breakers very disjointed and relying so much on Abercrombie to play defence. Patterson going ok but to smart for some of his fellow players.

Homicide is ok with Gaze, Luke knows nothing but like listening to him self.

T Webster, Delaney and Patterson turnover machines. NZ look done.

All players on a pay cut. It can't help mental health.

If anyone ever asks if Shamir can coach. Just answer Deng Deng.

And what is the story with Trist?

I'm starting to wonder if NZ should really be taking part in this season. It’s a big ask to make players take pay cuts to play more games, live out of a suitcase on the road in another country, away from their families.

Breakers just not good enough with turnovers. If they could clean up the 20ish turnovers it might've been a game. Iverson however improving big time, causing trouble for teams.

Jessup and Harvey great tonight, thought bairstow put in work too.

If iverson couldn't pick up 17 rebounds with nzs other bigs, then there is something wrong with him

Iverson looked good, has managed to adjust to the reffing and used his big body well. Can now see how he's lasted in Europe for so long now.

The game tipped off at 7pm NZ time which was a nice treat for us Breakers fans.

Turnovers killed it for the Breakers and everyone was guilty.

I disagree about iverson

I saw a post that described him as having hands like bricks, no lateral movement.

Add to that lack of speed.

He does set a good pick and doesn't do dumb fouls like ashley did

Hopefully they replace him

I hope Patterson a speedy recovery from the injury and can regain his All-NBL form.

However, this is the best news of the season for NZ.

They have a defendable position to get rid of this dead weight.

If they have playoff aspirations, now is the time to act.

Otherwise, sack him, save money, give more minutes to Delaney and other up and coming players which means you have wasted money bringing in the more expensive Webster.

Good chance to rid themselves of Patterson, bring Webster into the starting lineup and bring in an import 4/5 and give better balance to the team.

Would Perth look at Patterson if nz released him. He certainly has game. I think some of the criticism is unfair as he's always been a huge barrel chested man.

Sure there has been criticism for his body shape but mostly it has been his lack of foot speed, poor shooting and inability to stay in front of anybody that people have been critiquing.

It's not the size of his chest that is the issue, try a little lower.
