The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames have today announced that Head Coach Katrina Hibbert will not be returning as Head Coach of the Club next season following the expiration of her contract.

The two-time WNBL MVP led Sydney for two seasons, finishing the 2021 Chemist Warehouse WNBL season with a 5-8 win-loss record and fifth spot on ladder.

Flames Owner and Chairman Paul Smith said: "The Club thanks Katrina for her commitment to the Brydens Sydney Uni Flames. She invested passionately in her role as our Head Coach both on and off the court, and throughout her work in the community. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours".

The Club is currently undertaking their search for a new Head Coach.

Currently undertaking, or have already made a decision but just aren't announcing it yet?

Think she deserved more time. They just needed to get Kunek back plus an import, move Maley to pf.
York certainly did not derive to go around again.

The decision for the new head coach has already been made. And it's a name that should in no way ever be associated with head coaching in the WNBL EVER AGAIN.

Unfortunately she was not a good coach and needs more experience at a lower level and maybe she will learn something as the Gems Asst. Coach.

Shane Heal is the name being bandied around-Heaven help them.

So Shyla could be faced with the choice of staying with the best coach in the league or leaving to be with the worst

"Please not maher either." So what's Tommy ever done wrong? Pretty sure he's coached 4? diff Olympic teams.

Maher inherited a good Aus team and then was abysmal everywhere he went from there.

Love a game of AFLW where the winning score is 33 to 5. Horrible game. Once again they get "special treatment". Like Women's tennis and Golf. Laughable. Oh that's right we want equal pay as well.

Think she merited additional time. They simply expected to get Kunek back in addition to an import, move Maley to pf.

York surely didn't determine to go around once more.

So I reckon heal goes to Sydney from the fire and Reid gets her shot and Seebohm also picks up Wallace or mangakahia, both qlders and players he chose for uni games teams.

Heal probably developed as much as she couldunder Seebohm, it's probably better for australia that Reid or a Wallace or Mangakahia get experience under him. Not great for the fire though and they will need another piece like an Allen or Kunek over Murray or woods to up the offence.
Aokuso n Mckay stay as the centers, payne to backup pf, get in import starting pf. Nicholson starts at sg.

How many emerging coaches are there that would see this and just think, 'fuck it what's the point?’

How many times has Heal proven he’s not up to professional coaching, men’s or women’s?

This says more about Smith’s credibility as much as anything. He can’t be taken seriously if he hires Heal.

Probably gonna be Tom Garlepp

Smith has no idea. So much for this culture crap that he always talks up at the Kings. He obviously doesn't care about Heal’s background and what he’s done to a whole bunch of people. I’d be shocked if they were able to attract anyone decent to that program. I think most WNBL players are smart enough to steer well clear of Heal and his garbage.

I'm all for Heal getting the job, I won’t have to put up with his commentary in the men’s game. Now that’s a relief.

IIRC he was still commentating NBL games back when he was destroying the SEQ Stars so don't get your hopes up about him being on your TV any less :(
My sympathies go out to any players still under contract with the flames.

Frog was completely out of her depth at WNBL level, you'd struggle to find any player that would speak positive about her coaching skills. She can’t relate or build strong relationships with her players & prefers to belittle & berate them. Flames will be instantly better team next season by showing the Big Frog the door!

Autocorrect put in frog instead of Heal.

If that’s true, then it will be business as usual at the Flames

Paul Smith as owner and Heal the head coach - they may as well go full circle and round it out with Brendan Joyce appointed to assistant.

Hahaha gold ....... I feel for Shyla Heal , though she will certainly be in the limelight , none want to play for Heal , he's even worse than Molloy

Adam Forde better watch out. Heal has stabbed people in the back before multiple times, won't hesitate if he thinks it will get him a higher paying job. Especially given his relationship with Smith.

Good point, no doubt he'al be eyeing the Kings role. Not surprised these two "personalities" get along with one another.

Didn't think Paul Smith's ownership could get any worse but it has and will.

Will be interesting to see who stays and goes from flames and kings next season, lot players out of contract.
