PER v ADL Mar 14

The NBL Cup finishes with a dead rubber. Perth have the Cup and could afford to just torment the Sixers and the League by running the bench all game. Are the man enough to lift a finger to the others? or do they want to go the full McGowan and go for the landslide.

Given that winning still matters to overall standings Perth should approach this game wanting to win.
Adelaide for the sake of their fans need to put up a respectable showing.

What is mind boggling with Patterson is that he plays in the Puerto Rican league in the lead up to the NBL season, that was why he joined the Breakers late because he was still playing there, so in theory he should be in tip top shape from Day 1. The guy must really let himself go early in the off-season.

Anyway according to Boti the Breakers released Patterson when he got injured but haven't announced it yet. WMW has been signed as a temp replacement for C-Web even though he hasn't arrived yet and has to do 2 weeks in quarantine so I think once C-Web comes back they'll say WMW is staying on as the replacement for Patterson.

Sixers love eating their own, yes it was a capitulation though the Sixers were never in semi finals talk at seasons start. Perth are and have been the best team for over a decade and have the best player in the league by far. Adelaide have some good pieces but not enough and backing an 18 year old as your point guard was always fraught with danger, he's a good player, maybe great one day but this is one tough league, yes I know all the commentary is he’s nba bound and if so good luck to him but he’s a long way of that at present. Gleeson is a wily old fox, knows his players well and the league, he gets the best out of all of them. Sixers need to find a defensive 3/4 and a quality import combo guard for next season to put with who they got now and strengthen there bench.

Conner's definitely not blameless, but honestly there’s not a lot he can do when the team has only one healthy, NBL quality big man.

Perth just flat out smashed us with offensive rebounds in the second half. We actually had more rebounds at half time and ended up losing the count by 14!

Noone on the bench was going to stop Mooney once he got going in the second half.

After all the mistakes of the last two seasons, particularly losing talent like Creek and Sobey, you can’t just replace that and expect to turn it around in one season. Of the guys playing big minutes, only DJ and McVeigh have played on the same team before this season.

Humphries, Dech and Giddey were great recruiting moves. BP3 looks like he might be another good call. As impatient as I am to see a contending Sixers team, I think we have to give JVG another offseason to see if he can strengthen the bench and then lets see if Conner can build the kind of competitive spirit Perth show year in, year out.

Aren't the Wildcats in the same position with Mooney?

Lovebroker, agree 100%. Hopefully Isaac stays, so we would have Isaac, DJ, Jack, Sunday and hopefully BP3 (assuming rest of season goes well and he wants to stay), the rest can f$&k off. Crocker, despite his defence, has not been an impactful import. Maybe a decent 3rd import if we still had that rule, but not a 2nd import.
Interesting off season. I'd like to think we can still make a run if Isaac gets back soon and BP3 settles in, but no team with the passengers you posted can make finals.

Beantown, they gave up a 26 point lead. It wasn't due to a few offensive rebounds (an area we've seemed to struggled in for years now. I wonder why that might be). Yeah Pinder has maybe the lowest IQ of anyone out there, but that had nothing to do with the result. Hell, Perth 'only' scored 25 in the 3rd, that shouldn't be an amount that changes games to the degree it did.

All we needed was a couple of buckets at any point during Perth's run in the 3rd and the game was probably over. Instead we didn't score for half a quarter and managed 3 points in about 9 minutes. ANOTHER ridiculous stretch of just not being able score. Again, that's not due to giving up offensive rebounds - it was happening even when he had Humphries - it's a problem at both ends of the floor, a problem that should have been addressed by Henry by now. Are there no plays in our arsenal to give us a couple of easy looks to settle us down?

It's sad that if teams can slow down Giddey, unless McVeigh or Dech go wild, we have absolutely no offence. Our 'star' player in Johnson can't get us buckets when we need them, and unless he's drawing fouls (which in games like today, where he's extra lazy, is what he's more concerned about than anything else and hurts us) and putting up an efficient 20+ is basically a net loss out there. We have shooters, we scoring inside and out. 5 points in a quarter after we'd had probably our best half of the season in pathetic and the coach is a massive part of that.

24 you are on the money.

At half time, Perth switched to a half court trap defence once the ball crossed the half way line. The ball was continuously double teamed on the sideline. The offence called for the screener to slip to the basket, but when the other three defenders are trapping that is not an option.

There was no identification, no adjustment and correction by the coaching team. Game coaching is the immediate short term problem that needs to be addressed.

Sure they have a squad that is not balanced and won't provide much rebounding, and no go to scorers, [and management must own the blame for that] but to give up that lead that way, thats game coaching.

5 times in a row we got trapped in the same place on the floor. No offence change.

You can't have a 18 year old playing great than 8 minutes a quarter, they will fade throughout the game. Our defence was sluggish as the game went on, we closed out poorly.

BP and McV were a headache, so Conner let’s them wear pine.

Conor Henry the reason why he got sacked by the wildcats years ago was what you saw in the start of the 3rd quarter he lets teams goon a run with calling a timeout or change things up when team are doing that. Ponder does have brain fades but if there is no real system in place most player underperform. Especially when a club like Adelaide has had no real structure or culture over the last so many years and that on and off the court.

Wowee, as a Cats member who has seen Cotton from day 1, and he still surprises me with what he can do. It seems like he's still getting better, the Cats are less potent on offence this season, yet he's actually upped his passing game, plus gets multiple steals per game, and the level of clutch is ridiculous.

For me it's hard to look past Gaze as the greatest NBL player ever, but man, if Cotton plays out his career in the NBL then he's almost a dead cert for at least the #2 position.

Twentyfour I agree with you, our offence is another huge problem. But why do you think that is?

As I stated above, if opponents lock down Giddey, its game over for us. That's because we haven’t had another guy who can easily create his own shot AND setup others. DJ, like nearly all big men, needs someone to set him up. Crocker, McVeigh and Dech also need to be setup to score consistently.

I assume that they thought Sloan would be that creator when they signed him, but unfortunately he couldn’t do it. So Henry’s been trying to keep his team afloat until BP3 got here. Frankly, I think he’s done ok, given he can only rely on an 18 y.o. rookie to run his offence and once Humphries went down, had only one NBL level big and almost no defensive presence at the rim.

I’m not saying Henry is perfect, jury is still out IMO, but I am saying I think this is primarily a personnel problem. Lets see what Conner can do with BP3 running more offence. Hopefully the guy is more than just a 3 pt shooter!

Lol, yes, your sarcasm is on point.

I don't want to be harsh on Mud though. He’s been chucked in the deep end as backup point and he’s not ready. I’m fine with him getting more time to develop as I think he could offer something down the track. But he should’ve been a DP again this season.

At least give Mudronja some game time to prove himself either way, Adelaide hasn't got anything to lose, not like the list goes 10 deep and are dominating the comp.
At the moment he is hoping he doesn’t make a mistake, when he actually does get on.
Can’t prove anything under that pressure
Give him minutes or release him from his contract, don’t leave him benched game after game. It’s a bad look, regardless of any opinion on his playing ability.

That's what happens when new management comes in in any profession. You get judged by a different set of eyes and it doesn't always work in your favour. We all know what the answer is.

Doesn't matter, he is 2 seasons into a 3 year contract. If they don’t want him there, and that looks like the case, pay out his deal and let him seek other opportunities.
Don’t treat him like absolute shit.
He would be better than the imports, he’s an Adelaide local so you know he’s all in.
No player will improve getting zero minutes week in week out.
Sixers are getting a terrible rep for treating people like crap.

Connor Henry needs to stop whinging to the refs the whole time and worry about his players.

His rotations and offensive setups have been very underwhelming so far.

Every coach gets onto the refs, you ever watch Gleeson, Goorj or vickerman, they all do it.

So unfair that the NBL scheduled all the Cats-Phoenix games to occur before today.
I am mentally and physically bracing myself now for the onslaught of sympathy that LV will be showering Perth with for the foreseeable future.
