Thoughts on Brandon Paul's NBL debut?

What did you make of his debut?

Looks to be a very good player, much better than Sloan.

Well done JVG and Grant Kelley!

Yeah, looked good. Do him and Cotton know each other, they seemed pretty chatty at the end?
Let's see if Henry can run an offence around him.

He played well! Definitely an asset. Was surprised to see he got no assists though.

Yes I suspect they do know each other - similar age and have kicked around in the same leagues. They possibly played in Turkey together in the Anadolu Efes

actually, Paul replaced Cotton at Anadolu Efes in December 2016. They played against each other in the d-league in 2014-15

Ahh ok, I clearly didn't look into that one well enough! I’ve noticed Cotton usually has a kind word for new imports though.

Listened to him today on Aussie Hoopla podcast, he sure seems like a switched on and humble dude. Good get for Adelaide.

Impressed with his debut.
He isn't the reason for Adelaide's second half capitulation

Breakers probably upset they didn't bite the bullet and sign him and release Patterson.

Great player but Adelaide still looks like they’re missing a decent front court player to replace Pinder (dumbest player in the league) and a better coach to replace Henry (most overrated coach in the league).

He said in the press conference that he hasn't had a full practice with the team yet. Given he's also coming off quarantine, he should be even better in coming weeks

Hopefully will help keep the 36ers somewhat competitive

The one positive of that game was seeing BP play.

He can create his own shot and has a decent step back.

Has a decent stroke, unsure about hsi defence though,

Nice shooting debut by BP3! Hoping once he's had some practices with the team, we can set up some plays helping him to attack the rim. Can’t just rely on jacking threes every game!

Right now, if opponents lock down Giddey, we simply can’t score. If we can put the ball in BP3’s hands and have him create some offence, that should make it harder for opponents to shut us down as Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and NZ did.

Technically he reminds me of Willie Farley.

Someone with great attitude, athleticism and technique.
Someone who will score in spite of how badly the half court offence is designed.

Giddey+BP3+Hump is a nice trio to build around.

Jeez a lot of idiots here. Great game today, so was there a reason he wasn't a priority selection to start with?

The ball didn't go thru him enough. Too much 1 or 2 pass offence without getting the ball to either a Paul or McVeigh who had a hoola hoop to score in.

PG - Giddey
SG - Dech
SF - Paul
PF - Johnson
C - Humphries

One of the best starting fives in the league?

Move on Dillon, teys, Crocker, Pinder next year.
Giddey to nba, bring in import pg.

Don't factor in Giddey for next year. He won't be here.

Agree FM. Giddey and Crocker both went iso ball too many times in the second half while Paul was hanging out waiting for the reversal. Bad offence.

The ball didn't go through him much because he's had a half of practice and doesnt know the system at all.... Man WAY too many Tuesday night b-grade coaches here who think they know alot more than they really do

Could have best starting 5 but if you don't know how to use them then it's pointless!

It's not one of best starting 5's if Dech is in it. His overdribble and drive while contested plays are horrible. Very rarely passes without putting ball on the floor and also very rarely passes once he's put it on the floor.

If Dillon, Teys and Pinder go, who would you to replace them?

Who from nbl1? Who from college?

Poach from other clubs, it's the best way. Cooks is out contract and many others.

Xavier Cooks would be on more than those three guys combined.

You want to win you have to pay the freight. There are marquee rules and others to build a good squad. Perth are experts at it. Sixers starting five starting to look ok but need two good bench players that can play multiple positions and a couple young keen guys at end bench.
