Westgate Imperials Senior teams?

Is there a reason why Westgate have never applied for Big V? Will they in the future? Are they only wanting to be a junior program or will they have another pathway into senior basketball?

They seem huge with over 2000 members according to their website. Surely thats bigger than some of the existing Big V clubs

Probably only a matter of time till they probably apply. Makes sense as number of young people in that area is only increasing

they discussed it 3 years ago. it was funds, volunteers and understanding of where it featured in their pathways that stopped them.

Big v will need more teams as at least 2-3 teams going up to NBL1

If they wait they might miss out. Other clubs like Bacchus Marsh are ready to go next year. You couldnt have both starting in D2 in the same year given both are to the west of Melbourne

More teams more opportunity for players, no reason why D2 couldn't have two conferences. Big V obviously read my email regarding YL2 Men (they didn't acknowledge it) and then went and created two geographical (sort of) conferences.

The Big V need to look at some of the regional clubs who could compete. I hear Colac is interested but Big V haven't done much to help them get off the ground.

Horsham should be looking to return to the league as well.

Latrobe & Horsham would be great to return. Warragul too.

Plenty of other smaller clubs around Vic that you'd love to see in.
Korumburra, Phillip Island, Surf Coast, Seymour, Echuca, Swan Hill....
Turn D2 into a geographical conferences and promote one winner at the end of the season. Drop the underperforming D1 team.

How good would it be for those communities for them to have a Big V program and have people travelling into those towns every second weekend.

Agree with the list of Korumburra, Phillip Island, Surf Coast, Seymour, Echuca, Swan Hill. Should add Wonthaggi, Warrigual and Bacchus Marsh Colac to that.

Its not about having D2 being super elite standard but building the basketball community. if they get the opportunity at a lower level Players, coaches and clubs can all develop improving basketball in the state.

#656 - Every club deserves the opportunity of senior representation. Gives the club something to provide their younger players. I do agree about the drop in standard over the years however, but as #664 said, the lower levels don't have to be as 'elite' as NBL1 or State Champ.

EPL is a prime example. Tiers upon tiers underneath the Premier League, but most of the focus is on the Premier League. And Rightly so.
But the lower clubs have players that get signed by the bigger ones, as I'm sure coaches and officials do as well.
And every now and then you get a Cinderalla story of a small club matching it with the big guys.

So I agree with you in part. More emphasis on the top end, and thats where the talent should be, but every club deserves a chance to be represented.
How many Footy & Soccer clubs have senior teams in Vic ? Hundreds ? Thousands ?

Are Westgate entering Big V next year? I'm already hearing of plenty of people saying they are looking to play there. The excitement of a debut season looks like bringing in some real talent

These guys are on the up!

First line reads "A new basketball power is emerging in Melbourne's west as a rapidly growing representative program prepares to make its National Junior Classic debut."

Surely Big V in 2023. They need pathways in place for these kids before they need them or they will leave.
