He consulted on the last one as well.

Larry would love Nick - if there's anyone who despises regional clubs more than Nick he’d be hard pressed to find them.

Can we just hire Nick himself?

"Larry would love Nick - if there's anyone who despises regional clubs more than Nick he'd be hard pressed to find them."

You mean the same Nick Marvin that used close to a million dollars of NBL profits
which was largely generated by the Wildcats to bail out two regional clubs? Ok then...

" Can we just hire Nick himself?"

One person jumped the gun and thought we had, *cough cough*

It's good to hear though they are seeking out good people who understand what is required to search. Such an important part to get right and that flows on to hopefully mean other right decisions get made

Ohhh ffs... does this owner of the Sixers have no balls to make a decision himself. Why does he always have to go elsewhere thinking others know better than the expertise that is at his fingertips in SA.
Just give it to May who has been with the club for ages and be done with.

JVG is a decent option

Certainties in life: death, taxes, and basketball organisations issuing a press release about who is helping them decide on their next hire. Maybe Jan Stirling was busy.

Or Phil Smyth, not the first time Marvin has done this for the 36ers either.

Because its worked so well before. Having to go external just shows how little those inside the club and the owner know about the landscape.

Look forward to another spinman (Big Joe) or generic sports admin looking to pad their CV like (Ben, Hubbard & Sinnott).

Marvin didn't consult last time , he was interviewed for the job and the two parties couldn't agree on some key issues.

Too bad they weren't this careful when appointing their GM of basketball operations. Oops.

Another strange move by the owner. Would not be surprised if Marvin picks himself!

Yep, that Nick Marvin. Funny thing about making money from games is that you need two teams to play. Or in Nicks case, he was hell bent on having a competition with only metro teams, which at the time would have been a grand total of five. I'm sure it would have been a cracking league...but only Nick would know.

Perthworld you said "He consulted on the last one as well." Then someone else said "Marvin didn't consult last time , he was interviewed for the job and the two parties couldn't agree on some key issues." So did he consult or applied. It's unclear to me.

The other poster is correct - Marvin applied for the job.

So the guy they rejected is now giving advice? In what professional arena does this ever occur? None I would suggest.

(I think what happened was after the job was filled Marvin may have done some other work for the Sixers as there was a game where he was sitting side-by-side with Kelley?)

6'ers are deluded if that is the case. Let's not hire a guy and then seek his advice.

Was Conner Henry the last person Nick Marvin sacked before he was sacked himself?

No, he sacked Bevo prior to him leaving the club.

To the idiot having a go at the owner... Wouldnt you rather he make a decision based on input from experts????? Clearly you have never run a business....

Wouldn't you prefer the HC (who has no idea) to make a recommendation?

I highly doubt anyone expert or otherwise suggested it was a good idea to take his best player to the supreme court to try and void his NBA contract.

Wonder if they did a police check on the guy they gave the role to; or even an internet search.....

Friend of a friend sent this my way, doesn't sound all that smart…. Or maybe he is smart, but wanted to make sure it sounded like he wasn’t?

" Wonder if they did a police check on the guy they gave the role to"

What would a police check show from that article?

Barbato appears to be a lay witness not an accused.

I don't know what could be gleaned that is of relevance from that article if you’re the 36ers?
