NBL1-West WOMEN Round 6 Preview and Predictions

WOMENS NBL1-West
Friday
EAGLES v REDBACKS
This game was scheduled in a previously cancelled round and rescheduled to tonight. Last weeks game between these two was pretty close stats wise and East Perth actually won the second half by 6. The Spiders had a good spread of scorers and Allen grabbed a huge 18 boards. Double doubles from Goulding and Mader are great, but they need more input from the team. Redbacks to repeat the dose from last week.
Redbacks by 15.

HAWKS v FLAMES
Hawks coming off a disappointing loss to the Tigers while failing to score more than 15 points in any quarter. Hawks were out-rebounded by 17 including 11 MORE OFFENSIVE boards! Dennis, McKay, Satie and Burton combined for 27 points and 20 boards with the Tigers Gandini, Kelley, Sharp and Lubcke combining for 72 points and 40 boards. Flames coming off a hard fought bye and should trouble the Hawks guards with Smith, Burrows and Ciabattoni putting up big numbers recently. Boag to outnumbered against the Hawks bigs and I wouldnt expect another quiet game from either of the aforementioned Hawks. Perry Lakes too big and out to rectify last weeks loss.
Hawks by 18.

Saturday
SLAMMERS v EAGLES
Eagles with back to back games this weekend. Slammers coming off a 50 point loss to the previously winless Lightning. Only 1 Slammers player scored in double figures in Parsons who also grabbed 15 boards. 32 turnovers will lose every game. All the time. Forever. The game will remain close until the Eagles pull away in the fourth.
Eagles by 16.

MAGIC v SENATORS
Magic coming off a 25 point loss to the Wolves while the Senators put up a brave effort against the Wolves by only losing by 6 when down 12 with 2 minutes to go. Senators need to improve their 3 point % after only shooting 15% from the land of 3. I said this every week. Milo needs help. Magic shot 30% from the field last week and will need to improve greatly to compete with the Senators. Barr to have another big game.
Senators by 19.

COUGARS v TIGERS
Cougars coming off a win away in Kalamunda 18 hours before Tigers did. Edwards returning to Ray Owen with 25 points and 12 boards. Cougs shot 40% from the field and out-rebounded the Suns by 15. Tigers Gandini, Kelley, Sharp and Lubcke combined for 80 points and 38 boards. Coach Parker should be thrilled with how the last two games have played out. This will be barn-burner. Sharp v Edwards. Lubcke v Simmons. Kelley v Mathews.
Cougars at home by 4.

FLAMES v REDBACKS
Redbacks coming off a win to Eagles last week and what should be another win against the Eagles last night. Flames had a 40 minute slug for the win against the bye last week. Flames might be banged up from last nights game against the Hawks. This should be a close game. Redbacks have been together longer as a squad and Coach Knowles is new to the Flames and therefore....
Redbacks by 5.

SUNS v HAWKS
Suns coming off a combined 45 point loss against Cougars and Tigers in last weekends double header home games. I know I write it a lot, but the Hawks bigs are going to be too much for the troubled Suns.
Hawks b7 16.

If these predictions are correct we will have the Cougars sitting top of the table heading into round 7. Don't think many on here would have called that 6 weeks ago.

Can't see Flames dropping both this weekend, and Garbin return is imminent.

Hawks nowhere near as good as everyone making out. Tigers exposed that last week.

Anyone else unsure why Black constructed this hawks roster like this? No guards and just play very average.

Disappointing when you have Satie, McKay and Burton.

Can Smith actually coach?

The Hawks are very tall with McKay, Burton, Dennis and Donovan and seem weak on the wings with not much coming off the bench. I did watch the game and Coach Black usually played two bigs at a time compared to the last game against the Tigers. When Boag went off the Hawks got back into the game but couldnt contain Cibba. Flames played a bit of zone defence too with the Hawks shooting 0 of 6 from 3 at the half. They may need to bring someone in to bolster the wings if they want to have a run at the championship. Interestingly Josh Garlepp said on commentary that Jorjah Smith actually trained with the Hawks earlier this year..... I wonder what happened?
