NBL1 Central Power Rankings week 8

1. Sturt (1)
2. Southern (3)
3. Forestville (6)
4. West (8)
5. Woodville (2)
6. Norwood (5)
7. Centrals (7)
8. South (4)
9. North (9)
10. Eastern (10)

Couple of big movements this week. Sturt stay undisputed number 1, easily taking care of Norwood who drop a spot. Southern surprisingly at this stage move to 2, not many would have put them this high. Forestville dismantled a disappointing South yet again, Panthers managing just 57 points if the app is correct. While another double/double for Starling with 15/14, not much help for him down at Marion. Can only assume Andy came up with better game plan with Mays getting 27 points. And can only assume the Panther board are drafting an expression of interest in next year's coaching role.
May be controversial, but with their win against Woodville, West leap into top 4. Score probably didn't do it justice, West controlling the game the whole second half. Good spread of scoring, and good to see a bit of team play at the Port. Woodville might give South a call and see if they can get a 2 for 1 on seek.com. Another coach completely outcoached, Woodville falling back into their famous zone that's done wonders for them in the past. Just watching the second half was looking at a team maybe coming together, and another falling apart, buck has got to stop with coach there. West have a couple of really tough games coming up, will see if my faith is rewarded.
Centrals might have strung a few wins together, but North and Eastern are hardly a challenge at the moment. Till they get a quality win, keeping them at 7.
North. What can you say. Terrible weekend the week before for their juniors, and the men just keep it going. Purchase definitely a step above this league, not saying he's NBL, but better than NBL1 Central. They have other good players, but Nyberg is being found lacking as well. Dousnt matter who is coming to join the team, it's a matter of playing with the hand you currently have. And to get an ace like Purchase thrown your way the last 2 games, it's an absolute disgrace at the Rockets, seniors and juniors, too many outside people coming in talking a good game, but failing to deliver.
Eastern, meh. Same as every week.

Bit low on South. At least still above Norwood and Centrals.

My bad, had planned to put South above Central's, got a bit excited at the start with lion's back to back wins, as I wrote later, they were only against North and Eastern.
So unfortunately for central's, despite 2 wins on the trot they drop a place. But Eastern is just basically a bye this year, and wasn't till second half that central's blew it out.

Bit high for Southern I think - just fell over the line against what you say is a disappointing North team especially when Nyberg had the courage to bench his captain for the remainder of the game following an indiscretion on the court and then a subsequent Tech as he left it.

Southern are winning though, doesn't matter how. And if he's captain then he should have known better. And yes, give Dean credit, but if it's team rules then his hands were tied. But shows how undisciplined North are atm.

North's talent are all limited. Each of them has major flaws in their game. Unfortunately North were in trouble before the season started due to the early start of the Central NBL1 and the previous years of players dropping away. Williams, Dowdell and Dau are liability at times. Purchase has moments but isn't game fit and at times rests on the court. Their bench is almost non existent.

I don't think anyone thought they'd be better than they have been. In fact their one win in itself was a surprise, against West who you bumped to 4, based on a win against Woodville who are in a slump and missing a starter Sat night.

Gee, North fans take things seriously. I admit it's a huge stretch to jump West into top 4, and they've looked terrible at times. Just going with what I saw on Saturday night, they looked really balanced, will find out in the next fortnight against heavyweights. If they get flogged I'll gladly put them back to bottom. Didn't realise Boonstoppl was so indispensable.
No shit North have flaws, but still have a talented group there, need to be better meshed together than just having the one win. Stop being so biased, just wait for Jack and Sunday and you can get back on bandwagon and say how those flawed players are now the backbone of the team, just needed some leaders.

HTF I am certain someone calling themselves NBL1CentralWoj and posting content like this to hoops.com.au on NBL1 Central is not even trying to be credible. Take this fools content with a grain of salt. It is good entertainment to read this kind of thing. Chump (NBL1CentralWoj) keep up your work, someone has to find the time to do it. It makes us smile and creates a little bit of interest.

All the coward anons on here bagging Rojo
At least he's got the courage to take on a tough assignment and put his rep on the line, unlike so many in Adelaide basketball who want to hide away in their comfortable safe programs
Give him a break you pack of Wankers, judge him on improvement of the squad at this early stage.
Mavericks have been pretty competitive overall except for the West game.
Nyberg should be feeling the most heat, big shot coach at a huge club flushed with cash and poor results, but get that he’s not an easy target like Rojo

545 bagging Rojo is cowardly as is the constant bagging of players and coaches in largely an amateur comp.

Don't know if bagging Nyberg is that much better.

North are about to get their two best players in (and arguably the best two players in the competition).

If you do the exercise of taking out each other clubs best two players for first 7 games they would likely be 1-6 as well.

Norwood are 3-4. What would they be without Turnage alone?

All these people bagging Nyberg, how many years have you waited to do that? Very weak. The guy has a proven track record of successful programs at multiple levels. I certainly hope these people bagging him use their real name so he can remember them when he starts winning again.

As for Rojo, judge him after 2 to 3 years. It takes time to turn things around.

Double Clutch exactly
Rojo took on the job knowing that the Mavs team needs to be developed before the visible stuff like winning games..
Respect to him, he's got a lot to offer and the Mavs will improve under him over time.
He could be selfish and coach for the present but he’s trying to develop players and set a good foundation for the future.
So your assessment is accurate.
Power ranking comments like "Eastern, meh, same as every week" are lazy and uneducated.

Cmon guys!
A. Rojo took the job as there were zero candidates. Nobody was jumping at that gig and likewise where would he have gotten a coaching role at other clubs??

B. If you really think he is not coaching to win and is in "developing mode" then you haven't watched any games.

C. Who is he developing? They are the dregs of what's left. Club juniors???

D. Recruitment? Answer is above. It is a budget project with a budget coach and way below budget talent.

He was basically an assistant at a stacked Norwood team behind the entire Webber family so I dont know what people expect? This is a result based competition.

The Clubs agreed to allow 2 teams from one Club in Reserves. As more people move on and history is fogotten these mistakes from the past are returning.

This is a decision made by the Club's themselves, in direct conflict with the purpose of Reserves and the development of players and the sport.

Wrong!!! The allowance for two reserved teams was for last year when there was no NBL1 to allow the extra players needing a game to play at a reasonable level. It was meant to help teams with older aged players who could not play U23s. That logic was abused in 2020 and the need for two teams in 2021 is both not required and inconsistent with by-laws

Some great young players in both those Sturt teams that could easily play NBL1 elsewhere.
Lots of opportunities out there
Up to them if they want to be reserves players in a strong setup, or get out of their comfort zone, put themselves on the line somewhere else and show they are the real deal on the big stage.
And clubs should actively pursue them, exactly what Sturt does

Sturt and Forestville doing just enough to get the win, with both in auto pilot.
North making some noise and could be a dark horse!
South having some teething problems with player arivals and were less than impressive against Centrals.
Woodville with the biggest winning margin of the season so far seeing off a hapless Mavs in Mt Barker by nearly a half century.

South unimpressive with a dismal first half against Centrals. 13 points down and only shooting 32%. Hard work to come back from that but still you can't play like that against the top 4/5 teams or they get eaten alive. All clubs have their slumps. Maybe Petty will get them back on track?

Sturt are yet to be beaten. Too drilled, too smart, too many options. South have the pieces but not the system or team mentality. North for a late run but will need a lot to go right to make finals. Forestville the dark horse as they always find a way.

Southern are beatable in the women but deserve to be favorites right now. If Morrell can stay out of foul trouble, hard to see them being beat.

For me its Southern v Sturt women and Sturt v Forestville men right now.

I wouldn't rule out Warriors. Definitely Warriors over Eagles to play finals. North at 3 & 6 won't make finals but will make it harder for the top teams to keep their standings with wins. It's a matter of who can keep their entire teams healthy/injury free for the 2nd 1/2 of the season.

Next few weeks will show their worth and I think it might be 50 cents short of a dollar. Also, look at who's coaching them - hasn't shown too much promise during the 1st 1/2 of the season.
