Cats v Kings May 27

There's no easy games this end of the season while finals are still an option and tonight the Kings are wanting to keep there hopes alive. Cats have different plans and will make them earn every point.

The Cats have a purr-fect record against the Kings this season. Like a casual stroll along Cable Beach at sunset, this might just be a stroll for the team who's fans put Collingwood fans to shame.

That purr-fect record to stand

Yep, I'd say the purr-fect record will stand. Gleeson will make sure this doesn’t slip after the tirade Forde dished last time in town.

Hmm.... think Kings have more to play for than the Cats who might be subconsciously looking ahead to finals. Kings by 6.

This is going to be the start of some ugly basketball by Perth in terms of a down and dirty grinding hustle to try and get the wins. Opposition are going to hate this. 50/50 for this one.

To many pessimists, as soon as grand pa Kickett gets on for his experience the kings defensively are poor, one or two others are not good either. I'd like to see kings win, just don’t think they will.

Perth has no reason to chase wins right now. Surely we will spend the remainder of the regular season playing around with different combos to see what does and doesn't work.
Not saying we can't still win games but I don't think it will be our focus.

I think we will want to win games to instil some belief in a team that has relied heavily on Cotton in the past. If we lose everything going into the finals the mental part of our team will be shot.

I think it will be SOP.
Perth will manage their players whilst trying to ice the game early, then progress to more bench time, and ultimately try to run the end of the bench.

Problems is that the last couple of times he's tried that, too many of the bench have looked like headless chooks.

And I don't understand where this idea came from, that's it's not ok to play to the buzzer when you have the game dusted?? IMHO that attitude is part of the problem. Trev brings on the end of the bench, and instead of playing aggressively and trying to make their mark, they act as though they're only out there to piss away the clock.

Wani and Britt should be playing like their future depends on it.

I expect the Cats to comfortably beat the Kings, But I wouldn't be surprised if things don't go to plan and we make a bigger meal of it than necessary.

Then, I would not be at all surprised to see us lose to the Hawks for strategic reasons.

It might be different if Forde hadn't already lost his job. Trev might have tried to help him into finals.

because Gleeson manipulates them. Perth have for 15 years.

NBL is a farce and has been since Groves, Cowan, Clarke & Bendat have been allowed to control it with money.

Gleeson is untouchable and knows it and in turn gets the game reffed how he wants it. Perth win, Bendat's money stays in the game.

Refs have been told, you're crazy if you think they haven't.

Never underestimate a Gleeson coached side.

Luuuc because basketball is that simple. Look at the way he carries on. Waves his arms around. Complains about every single call. His behaviour is directly in breach of FIBA rules about behaviour. Not even the NBA would axccept it. FGA is low because of frustration and the shots other teams have to take because Perth don't get called for all the contact they cause.

Love your Wildcats all you like. I don't need to argue with you or anyone. I know what I know and that's plenty for me to trust what I'm saying. I really don't care if you want to believe me or not.

Nice cameo from Travers its great to see him playing with such self belief. Everyone has picked up their output and looking good so far. I never thought at the start of the season that i'd be so happy to have Blanchfield in our team. Hes a quality player even if hes a bit of a downhill skier. Hopefully he can play at this level in the playoffs.

T'd him up yet he is still going. What coach carries on AFTER a T and gets away with it. Look at the soft calls Perth get directly after any call on Perth that Glesson gets into the ear of the other two.

He should be T'd every time he paces the side line, shakes his head and throws his arms about. That is behaviour that the rule book actually says specifically is a Technical Foul.

Even after one he's allowed to carry on like a 2 year old child. It's bad for the League and its credibility. And it works. The majority of refs are young, inexperienced and too scared to be the bad guy. He knows it. For every T he gets he also gets 20-30 calls in his favour through manipulation. It's a deliberate behaviour. Goorj also did it. Junior coaches do it.

Perth win, Bendat's money stays in the game.

That's why the Wildcats dominated in the 90s as well because Kerry Stokes was on a similar deal. I don't know how we do it but luckily not all of the other cashed up owners get the same top tier dynasty package we are on.

Sydney played physical and aggressive all game, Casper seemed more interested in getting in Norton's face than scoring. Frankly the kings got what they deserved, to blame that loss on trev or the ref's is abysmal. How about you start with your "stud" pg who plays hero ball, can't score and spends more time flailing to draw fouls than just playing the game.

Martin has talent, needs a good coach to teach him defence, Kickett never played the second half and kings made game of it. Ware is finished. Santamaria has no idea in commentary, his love of Martin only sees one end, there is reason that his minus is always high. They will have excuses kings but it's just a cover up. They are a better team than there results, offensively they are so selfish other than a few players.

I’ve been banging on about Perth since before the season started, all the experts telling how shit they would be, as I said at the time history tells you they will be good as a team, no selfishness in any Gleeson team and oh boy what a coach. Bairstow, Blanchfield even White have been excellent and there stars, Cotton, Mooney get put in position to be outstanding. If magnay got any idea he should stay there next season and learn, as his stint in the g league has done him no good.

Forde looked dead set out of ideas.

This season's failure is equally about Forde as it is about injuries / NBA out.

Putting Hunter, Cook and Martin together is not great but at least make Martin a stretch 4.

Why is MArtin looking to post up when the other 2 have drawn their defenders close? What a waste of a play?.

Once the coach was gone I think it's clear the team is gone. Casper doesn't even look like he is playing for his next contract, cooks is coming of months out. Bruce is just a little sniper. Wonder if perth can do to hunter what they did big Angus?

Martin would last five minutes under Gleeson, he doesn't play defence, he has some good moves around the basket, shoots reasonably well, but that’s it. Forde has been shown up since even in the cup days. Sydney finished, the four is decided.

Well that was shit.

Should have emptied the bench earlier and let them have at it, couldn't have been much worse.

As unprofessional as it looks, I can almost understand the starting stars writing-off the game and playing accordingly. But there were plenty of guys who needed to step up and show what they could do, and they just didn't.

At least when we lose to the Hawks we can claim it was strategic.

It is still amazing how the kings can win the foul count and free throw count by so many last week only for it to be reversed this week. Players don't do things differently that much, week to week.

TBH didn't notice much re: the refereeing. The illegal screens was the main thing, one was called in the 3rd Q from memory, but overall the game seemed mostly to be called OK. A few ticky tack fouls around the basket, but that's the NBL.

Real problem was the Kings just have no one who can create a shot. Loved Cooks' energy and Moller and Hunter had their moments, but with Casper invisible this was just a putrid offensive game. The weird lineup with basically 4 bigs (yes Moller/Cooks can play 2 at stretch, but not if you want any real spacing) I think was Forde just rewarding the guys putting in effort. I think it was to the detriment of the team as far as this game went.

Yeah, it's astounding that the fouls can be different in two games between the same teams. It's almost as if adjustments get made, especially in light of a rather influential player being absent last night who is usually at the heart of everything his team does (and no, I'm not referring to Casper).

I also learned last night that the refs "have been told", which makes it especially strange that the reffing could possibly vary from one game to the next.
Thankfully Bendat put some money into this Wildcats team whereas Smith has spent nothing on the Kings since he took over, which bought us the win last night and every other night we've played Sydney this season.

I don't think coach is rewarding players who put in, they are the best available, coaches over use of Casper and Kickett last night and through out season has been terrible. Cooks and Moller can score but are team first players, if they don’t pas it no one else does, Martin for all his scoring power is an ioso scorer, together with his poor defending. Again cooks and Moller can plug holes on defence with their lateral movement but in the second quarter when Kickett and Martin on together was the down fall. Kings were so much better in second half when Kickett was in his best position, bench. Kings should start Ware, Moller, Cooks Martin and Hunter, rotate Bruce and Newley against United and see how it goes. Bruce through 1,2, Newley 2,3, Moller 2,4, Cooks 3,2, Martin 4,5, Hunter 5., Ware 1, Vadonovic could be handy in 5.4 if foul trouble. Please no one else, Weeks is well past his best.
