36ers and Mudronja part ways

Adelaide-born. Wiki:
After one season with the Gaels, Mudronja returned to Australia in 2019 and signed a three-year contract with the 36ers. 36ers head coach Joey Wright called Mudronja "the best point guard of his class in Australia".
Didn't get consistent chances this season.

Averaged 5 mins per game, and most of that would be trash time, or given a specific task in defence.

Isaac White had a good year with a few more minutes and you sort of wonder if Alex had a few more minutes in "normal time" whether it would be a different story

In a way I'd have liked Adelaide to throw in the towel earlier and given him more time with substance and opportunity.

That way we could genuinely see if there is potential. Not much point having a bloke on the roster just to fill a spot and be training fodder. Seemed like that’s what he was.

Apparently he was leader of the CoE program, repp'd Australia multiple times as a jnr. Would be well respected amongst his peer group.

Wonder what he would say in private with his peers if asked about the regime at the 6ers?

6ers digging themselves a deeper hole right now.

If we sign Isaac White we couldn't afford to carry Mudronja for another year. Unfortunately didn't show much in his two years with the team but all the best to him.

It usually plays well with members and sponsors to have a local boy on the roster so with Mudronja's departure I would hope Isaac White is the one earmarked to replace him.

I don't think we can afford to carry mud, teys, dillon - as much as dillon was serviceable, it just doesn’t scream championship team to carry 3 very very average players.

If you’re going to carry a player, make it an X factor shooter or lockdown defender that can come in and do a specific helpful job every few games.

Teys & Dillon are both almost certainly gone. Teys is playing in Brisbane during the off-season rather than usually here and Dillon is also playing in Melbourne.

McVeigh, Dech, Purchase, Mudronja & Hulland are all playing here this offseason.

I would have liked for him to get more opportunities especially when the season was over.

We knows he may be a Le'Afa, Duffelmeier, Travers, Hunter, Ngatai who can demonstrate some value when given the chance.

I'd like to see more of what Purchase can do as well.

Newley can still play, yes he's a bench man now but still gets to the bucket as good as any, plays D. At the right price he’ll be great. Will lead as well. Kings record of keeping good players not that good over time.

I think its worth a go following the success stories of :

- Ebi Ere
- 2 Hard 2 Guard
- Ramone Moore.
- Dillon

No way Newley would go to Sixers after what they displayed this season. Would be a good pickup for Tassie who would be looking for some veterans and pay them a nice little retirement bonus to finish there. And Mudronja would definitely have next stop lined up leaving with a year left on contract. Lemanis gone so don't think they'd chase another ex Sixer. Cairns could be enticing to a player who's had a little bit of experience and wants some playing time, but coach would be a big factor in decision. Maybe they've tapped Joey on the shoulder and he wants some of his boys he liked to come with. And now just thinking about it, despite his bad departure from Sixers, Cairns might spend pennies in the dollar to get a name coach, no-one else would touch him. So I'll officially start the rumour, Joey to Cairns with Mudronja and Teys.

Left St Mary's and now 36ers after things haven’t gone his way
Is Mudronja unlucky or is he over rated and lacks the necessary resilience to succeed? He can obviously play but being a big superstar junior doesn’t always translate to senior success.

I feel like Mudronja was dropped in the deep end this season early on when Sloan left. Conner tried to use him as a point guard to backup Giddey and he showed his ball-handling wasn't up to it. Casper in particular made him look bad and I think that knocked his confidence.

I think he has shown an improved 3 point shot though and he has good size for a two guard. It was probably a mistake for his DP contract to be upgraded to a full roster spot. Realistically, too much was expected too soon.

It would’ve been nice to see him kept and developed another season as a DP. He looks more like an NBL player than a guy like Doyle ever did and Doyle spent several years on the end of the Sixers bench!

If there's three imports, I guess Crocker will be fine as that cheap third import off the bench. But for the Sixers to actually be a genuine threat, they need to gun imports. Can they afford that? Who knows. But the roster has to and will look much different next season.
No word on Humphries as yet? You’d have to think there’s doubt over him coming back.

Have you seen a game? What you basing it on. 2 games in?

If you are a numbers guy like most of you trolls....

Currently:

3rd in league in APG. 5.5 APG. 2nd Aussie.
8th in league in PPG. 20 pts. 3rd Aussie.
6th in league in SPG. 4th Aussie.

League not great but you would think these are pretty highlevel numbers for a 21 yo Aussie kid. Let's see how it progresses maybe, troll?

"Conner tried to use him as a point guard to backup Giddey and he showed his ball-handling wasn't up to it. Casper in particular made him look bad and I think that knocked his confidence."

If you use that logic then Giddey wasn't up to it also as he struggled to bring the ball down against Casper earlier in the year.

Mud had 12 points in 19 minutes. That shows he is good enough to warrant more minutes. The problem was the coach. When the season was done the coach went with Dillon who was more interested in padding his stats, the offense looked terrible and his defense wasn't far behind, hence why we didn't look like a chance in those games.

For a player that had Sturt div1 development, Classics, Nationals, COE, St Mary's opportunities don’t think it’s unfair to say Mudronjas pro career so far has been pretty underwhelming.

Anon it's poor form from Mudronja to go to South instead of back to Sturt, that club and Jantke Mesecke Rigoni etc gave him huge opportunity, sometimes players need to give a bit back and not just throw themselves at the coin.

Actually no it is poor form to think a player with a limited window to make money is going to take limited money compared to what I imagine South are offering him

Sixers maybe without Sturt and the Guys mentioned above there would've been no opportunity for Mudronja to earn money from the game in the first place.
