Central NBL1 Round 12 Power Rankings

Women:

1. Southern Tigers - Undefeated, teams yet to find a way to beat them.
2. Sturt Sabres - A scare v a much improved Mavs but still winning.
3. South Panthers - Thompson's recent form would be a concern, not comfortable.
4. Forestville Eagles - Bounced back from a loss to the Flames by beating a solid North outfit.
5. North Adelaide Rockets - Ortlepp and Good in fine form, Defrancsco stepped up v her old club. Capable of moving up to 3rd.
6. Norwood Flames (+1) Injuries have hurt this group but Wilson and Co. can upset higher ranked teams as they did the Eagles.
7. Eastern Mavs (+1) The addition of Hines and Juniors to help McKendrick gives this team some solid depth and a 2nd big scorer.
8. West Adelaide Bearcats (-2) The victim of two in form teams around them, the Bearcats should remain mid table.
9. Woodville Warriors - Some early season form has fallen away, rely on Winter too much.
10. Central Districts Lions - Juniors in a Senior Comp, doesn't work.

Men:
1. Sturt Sabres - One slip in an otherwise stellar season to date.
2. North Adelaide Rockets (+3) - Comfortable wins over fellow Top 5 teams. Another important test v Sabres this week.
3. Forestville Eagles (-1) - Big margin loss to Rockets but otherwise appears to have the guns to keep ahead of the current challengers.
4. South Adelaide Panthers - Needed win v the Tigers, despite missing key players Starling & Ellison. Hulland still with question marks over fitness and motivation.
5. Southern Tigers (-2) - A bit harsh given their run to date and beating top of the table Sabres just 3 weeks ago. 3-2 in the past 5 rounds, 2 upcoming games against mid-table teams could prove this team is legit or slipping.
6. Central District Lions (+1) Beating teams around them, need to start beating those in Finals if they want to sneak in.
7. Norwood Flames (+1) Need someone to go each week with Turnage.
8. Woodville Warriors (-2) Struggling to keep up with the talent they have on paper. A number of one dimensional players being shown up for their limits.
9. West Adelaide Bearcats - Had their chances but can't finish off games. Too many bad quarters each week.
10. Eastern Mavs - A mess. Less said about them the better.

Round 13:

Forestville v Woodville.
W Rnd5: Forestville 84 def Woodville 54
M Rnd5: Woodville 86 def Forestville 82
Eagles will have too much talent in both Women's and Men's games.

South Adelaide v West Adelaide.
W Rnd5: South 85 def West 71
M Rnd5: South 79 def West 67
Danger games for both South teams. These are the games they could slip on.

Southern v Centrals.
W Rnd5: Southern 120 def Centrals 34
M Rnd5: Southern 87 def Centrals 76
Tigers Women should get some good minutes into their bench. Men will want to bounce back in this one. Lions Men need this game to stay in touch of Top 5.

Eastern v Norwood.
W Rnd5: Flames 79 def Eastern 64
M Rnd5: Flames 90 def Eastern 69
Women's game should be a tight one. Two similar teams in form. Expecting a tough, physical contest. Men's game could turn ugle, very early.

North Adelaide v Sturt.
W Rnd5: Sturt 69 def North 43
M Rnd5: Sturt 78 def North 58
Double of the Round. Both Rockets teams have found their funk and are pushing for top 3 and safe Finals spots. Sabres women struggled to put away the much improved Mavs and their lack of size may show here. In the Men if the Sabres can limit McVeigh's impact they'll take this one. Dech to shut down one of the Sturt trio, the supporting cast may be where this game is decided.

Not bad. Still think North are too high in the men. A couple of solid wins and one lucky one against Woodville doesn't offset how bad they were to start the season. Drop them a couple, move Southern up a couple and you’re about right I reckon.

This week

Sturt will show North what a real team looks like
Centrals will fall victim to a loud southern crowd
South will easily take care of West
Norwood will crush Eastern (and I think Norwood makes the 5 at the expense of North or South)
Forestville will beat Woodville and questions about Whitmore will start to be asked.

North have won 5 in a row, the last 4 against teams in the five at the time. They struggled with scoring in the first have of year but that seems addressed. Only team to score over 100 against teams other than Mavs and against top 5 teams. They will only get better as they gel better. I think 2nd is reasonable. Based on current form who below them would beat them. Sturt is huge challenge. Just feel Sturt are too small

Not trying to have a dig at the coach or the club but honestly what is happening at Mavs men?
Is it just a horrible run of injuries or players not coping with constant big losses? Their bench is almost to the point of grabbing fans from the crowd to field a team.

Seriously though, can a replacement coach takeover Woodville and get them contending again. Take away their first month or so and they're on a massive skid. And normally the beginning of the season sees the talented teams win before others come together.
And I have no relationship with Woodville and Whitmore, just think it's amazing they are 3rd bottom which includes eastern.
Is it game plan or players tuned out or even lack of chemistry. But being down twenty something at halftime, even if it was Forestville, something is rotten there. Still time, but committee need to act and find someone to step in.

They were struggling before Jacobs went out and the cracks were already appearing. Some had them as title favourites and they certainly have not lived up to the billing.

Petty and Whitmore copped it I thought unfairly on here but they're the gift that keeps on giving. South suffering a terrible loss last night at home and I believe may have lost the split on a west team who are definitely capable of winning enough to make finals.

Injuries can’t bail these two out as their teams were under performing before then.

On a positive note - it’s great that with 5 weeks to go 9 teams are still in the playoffs hunt. Highly competitive league this year.

Firstly, Woodville are now done.

Southern losing to Centrals has to also raise some questions. Are they being found out now? Although the early loss of Coleman would have played a big factor.

South and Southern are not safe but can Centrals, Norwood or West do enough from here.

Big catch up game between Flames and Bearcats on Sunday 25th. Loser may be out of the running. Centrals at this stage the most likely to push for a spot.

Will Dech be out for the season now? Does the loss of Dech and Purchase put an end to North's run? Will the JackJumpers allow McVeigh to hang around for the full season?

Lots of questions in the Men's League with 5 and a bit Rounds to come!!

Worse thing about South's loss last night was West were all over the split in the last minute and it seemed South didn’t have a clue or didn’t care. Fouled West at Perry’s request and then jacked up a terrible 3 allowing West to go for a split tying 3.

Even with Coleman out the game was an important win for Centrals. Lual Diing has continued to impress with almost 20ppg and 10 rpg supported by Humpries 17 & 8 and Shaquille with 15ppg. One of the teams with a weaker bench than others but as long as their starters can stay healthy and out of foul trouble they can make the Finals from here given the question marks over 2 or 3 teams ahead of them.

Despite from Daly, Sturt has no real standout stars, and won by playing as a team.
Rasmussen scores 17ppg, Starling 18. But Starling does other things a lot better. Losing depth like Rasmussen will detract from Sturt nearly as much as Starling loss, it's how come they've been virtually top the whole way, the ability to have a rounded team. Suddenly someone will have to step up from lower minutes to higher, never know, they might produce near the same, but the whole isn't always the sum of its parts. Rasmussen would be runaway winner of best youth player.

So has Sturt lost top spot on the power ratings given their win loss record over the past 5 games? Has North convinced anyone that they should be higher up given they have won 6 in a row, the last five against teams which were in top 5 at the time? Is Norwood a sneaky chance to upset the top five or do they lack depth? Is Forestville deep enough to go all the way? Can South build a championship team around Hulland after losing Starling? How bad is Coleman injury and will it upset Southern's chances for the double chance? Will Central's sneak under everyone's radar and make the finals. Will both Woodville and West improve consistency to challenge and finally will Eastern win a game?
