Wildcats sign Shervill to 1 + 1

https://www.wildcats.com.au/news/wildcats-re-sign-young-gun-corey-shervill

"Corey Shervill's two-year contract with the Perth Wildcats will see him remain a development player in 2021/22, before being elevated to the main roster in 2022/23"

Awesome, going to be great to have him on that extended bench next season

Agree and getting one more year as DP frees up roster spot.

Man I wished Luke Jackson chose basketball over AFL, imagine a future with Jackson, Travers and Shervill.

Perhaps, but it's a good deal all-round.
Wildcats have already demonstrated that if you're good enough, you'll get minutes, and the money could still be ok. He gets a guaranteed roster spot in the 2nd season, a two year deal, and after that assuming he's on the way up, he's free to negotiate a good deal (wherever he wants).

Good to see some talented youth coming through.

I guess this would be the NBL version of a backend deal? the cats are prob expecting the salary cap to go up next season when his full deal kicks in. And as above still a DP so doesn't count towards roster spots. If they bring Ferg or another DP C/PF that'll be enough

Development players aren't always extra bodies in training as seen with Travers and Le Afa if you are good enough you can make a valuable contribution.

Shervill is good enough for a full roster spot imo so keeping him as a DP is a smart move by the Wildcats.

Wildcats and smart move go hand in hand, why would anyone be surprised.

Can they pay more for a DP than the DP contracted amount set by the NBL? Or is Shervill on 20k this year then a normal NBL salary next year.

I believe they can
I believe the DP salary is a minimum
Couple of years back it was rumoured that a certain DP at a certain club was on substantially more
I would imagine, that moneywise the wildcats would have gone close to matching what he was being offered elsewhere even as a full roster spot

Dp can be paid every time they hit the floor, it can be as good as bottom placed full roster spots.
