He'll thrive in the United system.

Be interesting. He looked completely passed his use-bay last season.
Can a new team re-invigorate him?
Or is this just MU paying overs to stack their bench?

Melbourne United - D.Vickerman

6'0 S.Ili/6’0 T.Dufelmeier
6’4 C.Goulding/SG/6’5 Z.Triplett(dp)
6’7 S.Hopson(i)/6’6 B.Newley
6’8 J.White/6’8 M.Peatling/6’9 D.Barlow
C(i)/7’0 J.Acuil

So likely import center
A possible ns sg

If Newley could be reinvigorated it would be in a team like United or Perth.

Newley was good last season, he's got a lot left in the tank, I don’t want to bag the coaches because they might not have been pulling the strings but team selection and balance was all over the place.
United like Perth are smart and Newley like Barlow are low maintenance, low cost professionals. Very smart signing.

Newley can still get to the rim as good as any player in the league so I think he's a good pick up if on the cheap. Hilarious to me that Adelaide were apparently in the hunt yet still couldn't bring their own son back to his home state.

He might be getting on a bit, but I look forward to watching him at home games next season. I'm liking United's balance of signing college grads and seasoned vets the last couple of years.

I believe you highlighted some traits that Adelaide find undesirable....

Newley can still get to the rim as good as any player in the league

Unlike others that jump in early we will happily wait until all utility leaves Newley before signing him up.

Interesting move. Agreed that Newley downhill is still just about the toughest to stop. Will be a good addition to the team. I doubt they would start with Ili at the point, just didn't work a few years back. Import PG looks likely and I tend to think they’ll run with the 2 imports only. Need an Aussie big but who’s available?

PG: Import / Ili
SG: Goulding / Baba?
SF: Hopson / Newley
PF: Peatling/Barlow (White inj)
C: Brandt? / JLA

By all accounts Newley was high maintenance. Clearly Sydney did not want him back

Does Brandt dislike the Wildcats still?

It was made public that Adelaide wanted to look at a younger core, not a older player like brad Newley. Matt Logue announced this.

If there's one thing Newley isn’t, it’s high maintenance. Great intel.

So the Sixers miss out on Newley and lose McVeigh? Very ordinary start to the offseason.

Might go against the grain and say that one 36/37 year old vet is enough, ie Barlow. Always gotta keep an eye on the future. Newley can still play a little but might hit a wall at any time. In a turbulent league, better building around our young crew eg White and Peatling, instead of adding another vet.

Still, Newley will bring passion to prove his doubters wrong. Might play a good season with a point to prove like Andersen did in year 1 in Illawarra. I hope so.

"Does Brandt dislike the Wildcats still?"

Brandt has a home in Perth and visits Wildcats games and training when home.
But he only ever gets "decent local" money in the NBL, and at the moment is making bank in Japan. He's not coming back to the NBL, unless things turn to shit, or someone offers him marquee money
