Boomers v Nigeria

Luuuc, thank you for link to USA game.

I looked on the link you provided and as it is USA Basketball site they seem to show only games with USA in.

Can you help for the Nigeria game today?

The easily switchable defense we can play with Giddey on might compensate for Giddey's defensive deficiencies. Compared with Sobey, for example. Giddey showing he might be worth a spot in the 12 based on the present, not just the future.

Even if Goulding doesn't keep shooting this well, the threat of it will be huge.

We look invincible but hitting 64% beyond the arc will do that for you.

I don't think Giddey looks ready. Offensively he's fine, and defensively if it were just on the ball that you had a problem, we could help behind and survive. But he spends all his time as a help defender watching the ball. He's slow in a scramble, which is weird for a kid with such a high IQ. Goulding is not really a more capable defender, but he is a more engaged one (for the Boomers), and that's enough of a difference.

Reath has been good, but don't underestimate Kay's value. I thought Bogut's point about his value in the high post was a very good one. We have nobody else capable of that role now that Bogut is gone.

That's was an insane display by Goulding. Surely some NAB scouts around for that showing and generate some interest. Pity 76'ers are only after a (tall) point guard in the off season :P

Just had a thought, if the NBA was played under FIBA rules would Australia have more guys in the NBA? KAY, REATH, LANDALE, CREEK, MAGNAY hell even GOULDING would they make it (and not just be bench fodder)? as we always have guys getting Summer League invites and Creek had his two way for a bit but it's still a massive effort for Aussies to break in.

Great effort by our boys to go 3-0 thus far, ^ Creek btw was never a 2 way pretty sure he was in the g league and got some call ups. Although Nigeria weren't going balls to the wall it was still good to see our guys play well minus mills and ingles

Thinking that Giddey not playing in the Olympics might be just to reduce any risk of a serious injury before being drafted, having him along for the ride with training and playing the friendlies should keep him close and interested in playing for the Boomers in the future.

I love Goulding shutting down all the haters he has here in AUS.. NBL fans who don't support Melbourne love to hate him.. some even saying he shouldn't be on the AUS team. TBH most NBL fans are clueless when it comes to basketball analysis so can't expect much.

He is one of, if not the most valuable Aussie in the NBL. Hard to believe people still rate Broekhoff over him.

I don't think anyone has an issue with Goulding's ability, more so he comes off as an arrogant douche more often than not. Pretty much the reason why I dislike him in the NBL, but absolutely rate him in international basketball. Also that sh!t eating grin of his, was even tougher to stomach next to Ware's sh!t eating grin when they were both at United. :P

I didn't think CG43 belonged on the last world cup squad but he proved me wrong in limited mins. He was a no-brainer for Tokyo, one of the few scorers we have outside of Mills and his defensive effort in green and gold is beyond his NBL standard.

I like Kay and Reath - Reath way skilled than I expected, but both will come in handy and matchups will dictate who gets mins

I feel that the coaching staff have got selections spot on. Every time we have a national team competing there is
always conjecture about who should be in or out. To me this group will be very competitive at the olympics.
Thybulle and Reap have only played 3 games with this group so chemistry is only getting better. Credit to
Goorj and Nielsen in getting the group playing together. People seem to either love or hate Sobey, but it was
great to see him playing relaxed today. I don't feel Giddey or Cooks are quite ready but they will be for 2024.

Well yeah, blind Freddie can see they were keeping things close to their chest, and so were we. That's why I take less out of this game than I do the others we've played.

But we got some runs into our bench and they looked comfortable and shot well, and defended well, so we can take that moving forward.

I am sure our coaching staff aren't idiots. They know the game against Nigeria in just over a week is going to be a tough one. It's basically a must-win game.

Is it just me or does Cooks dribble way too much? I'd probably like to see him in the side ahead of Sobey just because we're so much more vulnerable to losing anyone in the front court. But none of those guys in the 11-15 spots should see meaningful minutes.

Think we've seen enough now that the s5 plus extras should be

S5
PG Dellavedova
SG Mills
SF Ingles
PF Thybulle
C Landale

PG Exum or Sobey
SG Goulding
SF Green
PF Kay
C Baynes or Reath

Real shame cooks couldn’t fit, has worked well with Kay.
Giddey was the right cut and will certainly be there come 24 olympics.
Motum gone home and wouldn’t have made this side with his skill set.
Creek stayed in u.s training. Not sure what extra he could bring. Maybe small ball 4. Just not enough room.
Tbh Baynes looks like one of the weaker links and will no doubt be his last go with Aus unless he plays nbl and is available for asia cup.
