VJBL grading

Anyone know how grading for VC will work this year with no cross-over? Will first 2 in each pool go straight through to VC?

Top in each pool will go through and the vjbl will choose the other 6 based on results is my understanding

I wouldn't worry too much about it, if you are one of the teams contending for the final few spots in VC you aren't going to make the mid season cut anyway.

Would be good to know what the rules of the road are, whether in the second 6 or final few.

Surely it's top 2 in each pool that go through.

Grading has commenced without a grading map? Unusual approach. Can't be that difficult to put something out.

That would make them accountable. it's like the transfer list, there's not one of those either. They don't want to expose the "favors" they do for freindly associations by allowing more than 2 transfers into 1 team.

Yeah, the absence of the grading map is odd. Not like it's controversial .....what would be the need to hide it???

Add that to the silence on Hawthorn and lots of other issues mentioned on here in the last two years and you really have to wonder what their focus is in BV.

There seem to be many areas in which they've left confusion or worse.

Staff changes, lack of income, COVID, re-opening under strict conditions. Not like BV have just been sitting back enjoying a holiday for the past 2 years.

Dandenong have lured Tamie Harvey away from Nunawading. Big win for the Rangers whose girls program is a shell of what it used to be.

Not that it really matters... but if VJBL have worked out the next phase of grading, why not publish it on PlayHQ?

Big job for Tamie Harvey. Top age 16 girls and above are still strong, but below that there is no depth, in the domestic comp or rep program. She will have to build it up from the very bottom.

About time they hired someone for the role instead of handing out to ex nbl players who had no experience or genuine interest in how clubs work but were happy to dine out on their name. They are potentially going to be irrelevant in a couple of years if this appointment doesn't work out

The pools for the second round of grading can be downloaded from the Mornington web site. I assume it is the same document that was sent to the clubs.

I'm surprised that some previously predominant girls programs are down to 2 teams in VC - so are those numbers the VC numbers for the main season ?

Most of those clubs will end up with all their Girls 1's teams in VC. it was a strange grading because the top age girls didn't get to play their last top age year, so initial rankings were from 4 years ago and were not representative of where the teams are at in most cases. There were some pools with 4 obvious VC teams in the first round and others with maybe only 1. Not to mention some teams were undermanned due to the Vaccination status of some players.

Clubs have the info is such a cop out. Why not continue to post information themselves. They get money direct from players. Why are they not responsible to communciate with the same players that pay for them to be employed?

It's not a cop out. The pools have changed already from what they released to the clubs, due to the constant changing of restrictions and after receiving requests from clubs to change pools.

If you publish them online, and they have to change the map or maintain flexibility given the current situation, imagine the abuse they’d cop if they had to make a change?
This is likely to happen as well given the amount of teams that will be missing players in isolation.

Of course I’d prefer it online, but I understand the rationale behind not publishing it.
It’s just the nature of the situation at the moment unfortunately.

So its not a cop out to hide something because it might change and someone might complain.

Thanks for backing up my cop out arguement :)

There's complaints and then there’s abuse. Their job isn’t to cop abuse.

Pools/fixture and grading map are two different things.

Not having a published grading map is a bigger deal because teams don't know what the path to their desired grading outcome is.

It should just follow the usual map from here, assuming the currently scheduled grading and cross overs can be completed.

I think some of the grumbling here is that the 'usual grading map' is not published online at the present time.

They aren't using the usual grading map, that’s already established through the published calendar.

Given the scheduled calendar just follows the usual process then the map from now on will be the same as previously.

^^ someone obviously hasn't looked at the calendar, there’s only 1 crossover this year compared to the normal 3.

The grading map sent to clubs does reflect this change as well.

Confused by ladders in PlayHQ for this next grading phase, which include points etc from grading phase 1. Does that indicate that VJBL are carrying forward points from last year or is it just an error? Very confusing and would be much better for all if the grading map was published.

Our club finally shared grading map with parents.

Is it widely known that where wins/losses are the same in Grading that head to head trumps percentage? We thought we'd won our pool....but of shock to find that’s not the case.

So in 14 boys games the losers of games aa through to dd will all go to Div 2. From the winners of those 4 games, VJBL will choose which 2 go to Div 1 and which 2 go to Div 2.

1) Why would vjbl create a scenario where they are choosing the teams that go through rather than placing them based on outcomes?

2) Does anyone have insight into what they will look at when choosing?
