John Brown - in or out?

Game day for Cats but no news on Brown. Santa reported during the week that while Brown was able to leave Russia, those clubs weren't releasing players from contracts.
FIBA has had to step in to allow those players to continue elsewhere.
If this is what the Cats are waiting for, I don't think they'll have it by tonight.

Anyone taking bets?

There must a force majeure clause somewhere in any contract, and war is it.

You can't hold a player if his country is in dispute with Russia. Sign him up for the remaining season with no fear.

They've allowed the player to break his contract to return home but not to go and sign with another team somewhere else it would seem.

Asked this on the other thread. Does there need to be an official announcement of his signing before he suits up?

He can't suit up here or anywhere unless his Russian team has granted his FIBA clearance.

@Bol - I'd assume as soon as it's confirmed with the NBL, it'll be on their news feed pretty quick?

Not happening, as above said, Russian club has to give clearance. Casper went from Russian club to Russian club. Ukraine imports were allowed to leave clubs.

FIBA as always are handling this situation very poorly. If FIFA can do it why can't they?

I wonder if we are seeing the real reason for Scott Morrison's outburst the other night... he knew we weren't getting the guy that would help fix all the things we aren't doing well consistently...

This sucks. Very un perth like

Officially not happening, per The West.

Did the club roll the dice on something which wasn't possible? I believe FIBA allows players in Russia to void their contracts but not re-sign with another club during the current season. Could have gone after a non-Russia based player with clearance instead?

The new ownership doesn't inspire any confidence so far.

Very poorly handled by the club, I think this is the moment when a realistic championship against Melbourne or Sydney was forfeit. They knew back in January Frazier was not working out.

Its not the first time in recent seasons they've rolled the dice with the roster and its hurt their championship chances. Last season expecting Cottons citizenship to come through and this season perhaps still holding out on that hope not going with an import big from the start of the season. Dont think its the new ownership's fault as much as its the GM making poor decisions. Agree with Anon, Morrison probably knew it wasn't happening otherwise he wouldn't have referred to him as the phantom import and would have looked even more foolish if they announced his signature the next day.

You're right, it's been going on for a few years now but this season Mills is the new GM so the rot continues.

This is going to be a checkmark in a long list of slippage that will happen now that ownerhip has changed away from Bendat and Gleeson is gone. The culture of success at the wildcats was built on playing the right way and operating the right way. Leaving this decision to the final day(s) shows that they didn't have a strong grasp of the situation.

He just said at the presser we are missing Fraziers premier perimeter defending .
If he stopped Sydney tonight then he becomes super Frazier

There is nothing wrong with Frazier as player. I agree he is a good defender and adds rotation depth and would spread the floor for Bryce if he was shooting consistently. But he's not going to help much on the boards and interior D which is where they are lacking more.

At 5 rpg in 22 minutes he chips in pretty well on the boards, but yeah that is trying to help cover a bigger issue in the paint.
