United Sign Makuach Maluach to a 1 Year Deal

Dear Members,

We are very excited to announce the signing of athletic forward Makuach Maluach

(pronounced Ma-kwatch Mal-oh-watch) for the NBL23 Season.

Coming off four years at New Mexico University and a successful first year of professional basketball in Finland, where he averaged 13.6 points and five rebounds while shooting 36.1% from beyond the arc, Maluach will look to add to United's strong returning core.

Most recently, the 200cm forward has been applying his trade in the NBL1 North with the Dawrin Salties, where he produced one of the most thunderous highlights in NBL1 history.
The dunk instantly went viral, eclipsing over 500,000 views on social media and being shared across countless news organisations.

Haven't seen much of him, but better taking a flyer on a young guy liek this than Prewster at least. Thoughts?

It certainly looks like the budget has tightened at United.

My thoughts exactly Ryan

24 years old, decent NCAA numbers, played one pro season in a lesser pro league (Finland), let's give him a year at United and see how much potential he's really got. You never know, he could be the next JLA

Better than a 32 year old Prewster sitting at the end of your bench, for sure

Or if not the next JLA, the next Sunday Dech

Could also be the next Tohi Smith Milner, Chris Patton....point is you don't know. But it's worth taking a risk with your 10th/11th man instead of a safe option who you can be confident won't have much improvement left in them

31.6 from beyond the arc, not 36.1. As you say could turn out very good or be a bust. Is he an import ? It says his nationality is Sudanese.

JLA's leaving to try and crack the NBA so presumably Hukporti will be the starting centre perhaps this guy will be an undersized back up centre? 6'7" and athletic or maybe just a replacement for Barlow or something.

Wonder if he will come into the state sooner and play under Coach Schueller for Geelong Supercats. Hicks been sitting season out so far. Great to see him and Blagojevic together.

Melbourne need to concern themselves with having money for decent imports. Agada didn't deliver. Delly IS NOT WORTH $750K! I don't know if deals can be renegotiated but I'd be looking to knock that right down seeing as he's not a wanted man in any higher league. Either way, look at the playoff teams - they all have great imports. Tassie overperformed but the teams that did better than United can all count the difference in the heroics of imports (plus Cooks).

Credit to them for attempting a pronunciation guide in the announcement. It could be better, but there are so many guys out there whose pronunciation differs from one commentator to the next and the league/clubs really ought to be on top of this sort of thing. People are still getting Goulding's name wrong and he's one of the biggest promotional pieces in the league.

I recall when he was with Dallas briefly, someone posted out a photo of a team list that had been given to the media, which had pronunciation guides for all the names. The NBA Summer League cared more about getting Chris Goulding's name right than does the league he's the supposed face of.

It's an Australian issue, no one cares here. Abroad they are very diligent in regards to surname pronunciation in sports media.
