It's gone down due to two years of covid. Young players lost time to develop and gain experience plus some older players didn't return.
Just these two facts lead to a 20% drop off plus some older imports are being overpaid because they work for clubs.

Men's needs to be two divisions max surely if teams haven't won in 2 years they need to be dropped down. COVID and Injuries impacting teams a lot this season.

Much improved performance by WP men lately. Very competitive. Along with women doing well in Div 1 could have two championship teams 2023
Chelsea down to one championship.
Southern peninsula division one club.
Mornington seniors competitive but Div 2.
Time Mornington and Western Port merge.
Strong juniors Mornington and strong senior at Westernport.
If merge southern peninsula will become like Chelsea is to Frankston to the new merged association

Those on here constantly attacking Chelsea need to zip it.
it is a group most of which went to southern peninsula.
They recruited players from Chelsea to southern peninsula many have since left.
The juniors they recruited from Chelsea under false promises are now regretting leaving. The parents of these kids were told they would be playing VC. They are not and the Chelsea kids are part of teams that have won only a few games in the whole season. Those parents have already started to talk to chelsea about returning.
THey took entire Chelsea youth league women team to southern peninsula. 90% have since left and the team sits on bottom of YL2.
The senior women team are fractured. Having won one game. Three imports in six months. All under the ex Chelsea leadership.
Players are already put feelers out for next year to go to other clubs.
The mens team sits in the middle to bottom of Div 1.
These guys many of who are known to be on this forum need to focus on their new club and not chelsea. Many at chelsea blame them for chelsea issues. history repeating itself at their new club.
Our new GM had southern peninsula flying. Many of the good southern peninsula sponsors are now at chelsea. We are heading in the right direction.

In all honesty he's far better than your southern peninsula crew.
The sharks CW will be Div 1 women 2023 - walkout of players. Talk to Washington and Glenn about culture.
Div 1 men - 2023 no jones no sharks. He'll leave. If you want to talk up time is up look at brasser his stats this year
Youth league Div 2 men middle to bottom Div 2 women are bottom
VJBL no VC teams and lucky to have met 2 teams in 2023.
This after stealing all Chelsea's best juniors! There is a mass walkout happening at southern peninsula.
Gelder and Pud concentrate on your club. You tried to destroy one club and now ruining a second.

Longtallsalley, deflection doesn't work! You sound like a King Corey disciple or a key committee member?
Yes, new GM doing great job but can't cover basketball side unfortunately. Would be better than King Corey ifshe did.
The King has done little to improve placement of teams - look at their finishing positions. Overall, lower rankings.
He's teaching what other clubs were using 5-6 years ago and only part of it. Supposed to increase State and Development program participation- how's that going?
How many CM and CW players will be at Chelsea next year? Lots of retirements and others looking to move on due to treatment
Both clubs have issues and need changes

Reply #894770 | Report this post

Longtallsalley

Corey isn't the sole reason the club is where it's at. The southern peninsula gulls crew are the major reason.
There is already a big walk out at southern peninsula.
Women team is fractured. Personality clashes with coach, between players and with imports. Not enough investment in team (no second import). DOC won't make changes necessary.
The women program is looking so much stronger at Chelsea. Southern peninsula will be relegated one win. They will struggle to field a team in 2023. Chelsea CW five wins. A few ex Chelsea players already asking to come back. GM at chelsea has great connections within basketball Victoria.
Corey has done a great job with youth league women who last year were developing. This year four wins and counting. The pathway is there. Southern peninsula women youth league players have already started to approach other clubs.
Southern peninsula have the last of Hillier's u18 female players this year. Next year they'll struggle to field a team. Players recruited from chelsea are regretting following people down there and will return to chelsea boosting us. Sharks can't even field an u18 domestic program them and Westernport trying to get girls. So they have a huge cultural issue which Corey and Bridie have avoided at the nest. What's common between Chelsea and southern peninsula look at people.
As for Men yep it will be a rebuilding year in 2023. Look who is at gulls behind the scenes off court. Impressive. With Corey and new GM all you southern peninsula gulls will have eggs on your face.

So let's state facts:
Southern peninsula womens team has won one game, are on their third import in six months (talk to the ones that left) coach and best player are arguing constantly in practice, youth league are sitting second bottom (of division 2) having lost more games this year than last, all high performance players left. Any of that wrong?
Chelsea women have performed exceptional well in first year CW. Youth league has improved dramatically from last year winning more games than southern peninsula.
Southern peninsula gull crew took to recruiting junior players directly from Chelsea. Can't be debated.
Look at the sponsors the gulls have signed on. Basketball people. The club is building. Has a great off court team unlike those south.
Chelsea is on the way up and people should stop taking anonymous pop shots at Corey and focus on their own back yard.

Why not agree that the Gulls mens and women's team aren’t much better? Facts don’t lie!
As Red’n’Blue accurately stated " the gulls were extremely successful again tonight " with both teams losing by ave of 34 pt tonight.
SCW beat Wyndham by 11 in red 1 and lose to them by 36 tonight - 47 point turn around the wrong way! Plus McKinnon beats Gulls by 21 last week and SP by 23 tonight. Sounds like two similar teams based on facts. Can’t question that Longtallsalley?

YLWs coach has done great job but it's the imports that have caused improvement, not the King's work with them!

Ghost fair call that gulls are in trouble with mens program. My point is that the juniors were raided by old disgruntled ex gulls now sharks.
Given the youth league teams played today and gulls won it is clear which program is in better position.
Sharks women program senior and youth league would be 90% non sharks.
The facts are clear. 2023 gulls Div 1 men CW for women. YL have won five games and beat sharks
Men youth league goes to sharks but their Div 1 season has collapsed because of ex sharks.
If they had a strong GM the doc and coaches would be gone.

Ghost,
Personally disgust me when people leave a club and then take pot shots at it but worse still undermine those left behind by recruiting junior players. Whatever Corey has done right or wrong at least he hasn't been on these forums actively undermining others. He hasn't white anted the club by getting parents to take kids to a rival club (encouraged by that clubs board and management).
The criticisms directed at him about coaching etc may be fair but southern peninsula gulls actively sought to weaken another club. That's not cool. And both clubs should be building up from within.
If Corey is on the right path you wouldn't know when youth league women leave, when multiple quality juniors leave all recruited.
One thing that is right is the reputation of both clubs has taken an absolute battering. GM, DOC boards are not held in high regards within basketball community because of all this.

What's really disgusting about these clubs is the amount of money that gets diverted from junior program into the senior to satisfy the egos of a few.
There is no need for general managers who have four four to five staff underneath. Either have a general manager and one admin staff or have a small group of staff led by committee.
On the basketball side there is no need for high performance coaches and a DoC. One or the other. Once an athlete reaches a certain level the BV pathway is enough. And/or the athletes best interests should be put first and they encouraged to move to a larger club.
The Big V programs are made up of players/coaches getting paid who aren't part of clubs original development and the cash spent is on imports is just not worth it. They should be made up of local players.
These small associations need to take warning from hawthorn trying to buy their way to an unsustainable dream.
Or small associations should merge.
Some of these programs have wages bills in the hundred thousand dollar range and could easily be run on half that with the rest Put into infrastructure or player development .

Then signs with SP and they think he is the messiah of basketball, yet they now realise he has no clue about coaching or running a club. HBOB has also been found to be doing nothing in his role of DOC at Gulls, and that program is suffering badly. How do you figure that out. Oh, because I stated facts that were too hard to understand?
Please tell me what I don't understand?

Exodus of players, looking at options next year, Morale is low. Club needs to pull the trigger, but has it got the intestinal fortitude?

Another big weekend for Gulls! SCM lose by 30 & 40. Only have 7-8 players. Their SCW lose by lot and look well below SCW level just as SP women do.

Maybe time for League to look at things and make some hard decisions?

Similar in NBL1, not sure I'd Dandy and Melb shouldn’t be dropped down to State Camp?

Big V rule for this season sees relegation as optional given competition is still compromised due to COVID impact.

Can understand why Gulls would consider dropping to D1 but is it smart to do given they would lose most senior players?

They may never win D1 to get back to Champ. Keep it whilst you have it.

According to Gulls FB page, they are advertising for a junior DOC. Whilst that would be a positive move if HBOB has moved on, they seemed to have created a position of Basketball Development Manager. Surely that won't be King Corey!!

He has played for a while and one can inly assume it is him.

Perfect role for him, manage others to do the actual stuff so he can blame them for it not working.

New role isn't even listed on website!

So no relegation as expected!
No penalty for poor form or reward for excellence!

Let's hope they realign divisions and only have two...

Will need to recruit heavily, starting with a coach and an import. Could be first to go winless two consecutive years?

Gender, assume your talking men's and women's team because both are well short of level to compete.
