Injuries will probably change the squad slightly, it won't matter boomers will still win.

Need shooters for McVeigh and Steindl. Can probably get someone adequate from NBL1.

It's strange the Asia Cup is the same time as the NBA summer league. Players always have to choose between NBA or their National team.

Barely any word, all I know is McDowell-White is in the squad and my guess none of the Summer League guys will be in the squad which sucks. Plus injury replacements for McVeigh and Clint Steindl.

Our biggest threat is China if they have the same squad in their qualifiers. Yes it’s Asia, but we are only sending a semi-nbl squad. New Zealand has a good chance winning the Cup if there squad hasn’t changed much.

New Zealand still have talent. If the Boomers sleep we could lose. International games are different with overseas referees and strange calls.

They can't be comfortable, every nation is after us.

Still good enough, couple guys injured that played in Japan as well, Glover also not available due to knee soreness. Delly the loss but understandable.

NZ should not beat that team, perhaps China but unlikely.

The weakest Boomers team for official FIBA Cup/qualification that I can recall.

At least it will give McDowell-White a good opportunity to be tested. Who else plays point? McCarron? I prefer McCarron as a glue guy.

Is this how seriously we take Asia Cup these days?

I know it's embarrassing the Boomers aren’t taking the Asia Cup seriously. China has won it 16 times already.

Nothing worse if we lose to China in the final. Having Thon Maker and Froling is good. Delly is the only change that will hurt us.

McDowell-White will have to have a great tournament if we go far at the guard position.

Blandfield was a bit off with his shooting at the Melbourne games. If he isn’t injured I feel bad for him, lucky he won 2017 Cup.

Losing will be good, maybe they will take it seriously in the future..

No ( not at summer league )

Norton
Cotton
Sobey
Goulding
Drmic
Creek
Broekhoff
Cooks
Bairstow
Kay
Magnay
Johnson
Humphries

I'd even have other young guys over vague, Ducas, Okwera etc.
Players like bayles and 5he Galloway brothers.

Pressure really is on goorj for this one.

Not good BA sending over guys that aren't even NBL standard. They would've been better off just contracting an NBL club to send their team over minus imports than this. They only could that can come out of it is if we don't win it maybe they'll send better quality players in the future.

I seem to hear the same negative talk prior to the last FIBA window " oh woe is me, we going to get our ass kicked, why can't we send our best team, we lack depth, BA got no idea what they doing" history shows that maybe goorj and co may know what they are doing.

Boti highlighted an issue in that there are qualifiers every three months and have jammed the Asia Cup right next to a qualifier. Its probably not reasonable to expect everyone to be available that often

I remember the same comments which did and still hold merit but at the same time the teams of FIBA Asia are so pathetically weak that it is hard to respect its continental cup.

I'm not defending NBL players for no-showing it though when they have half the year off. They have it good.

I know Goulding is injured. Johnson has no reason to be involved with the Boomers seeing as they've never given him a real shake anyway - is also playing in the 3X3 tournament. Creek is currently playing in South America. Not sure about the rest though.

To be fair, New Zealand's sending a young squad too.

Flynn Cameron, Riverside California (1 cap)
Isaac Davidson, NZ Breakers / Franklin Bulls (0 caps)
Jordan Hunt, Hawkes Bay Hawks (1 caps)
Kane Keil, Franklin Bulls (0 caps)
Kruz Perrott-Hunt, University of South Dakota (2 caps)
Max Darling, Canterbury Rams (0 caps)
Sam Mennenga, Davidson College (0 caps)
Sam Timmins, NZ Breakers / Otago Nuggets (12 caps)
Taine Murray, University of Virginia (3 caps)
Taki Fahrensohn, Auckland Tuatara (3 caps)
Taylor Britt, Canterbury Rams (4 caps)
Tohi Smith-Milner, South East Melbourne Phoenix / Sandringham Sabres (39 caps)

With a rotation that'll look like this:

Timmins / Mennenga
Smith-Milner / Hunt / Darling
Davidson / Fahrensohn / Keil
Murray / Cameron
Britt / Perrott-Hunt

Good opportunity to bring through some fresh faces without too much riding on the outcome.
If some youngsters shine maybe they can play their way onto a qualifiers squad.

Wow I can't believe New Zealand aren’t going with the squad they just had at their World Cup qualifiers. They laid an egg in their 2017 Asia Cup group. If they won all games they would of avoided the Boomers in the semi finals. I can’t see them medaling with this squad.

It’s good their giving new guys a go, but strange their giving so many players their first NZ cap.

It’s disappointing how some national teams are treating the Asia Cup as a lame tournament. Bad timing with the summer league. Would be so much better if teams could put their best teams in. I get qualifiers not having strong teams, but we haven’t had this Cup since 2017.

Lastly, there’s a good chance will play China in the semi final since we are in Group A and China is in Group B. Would rather play teams from Group C and D so it means the gold medal match may be a blow out. Boomers could just play for Bronze if they lose to China. Boomers have to win gold, I know China thinks the same but we have too.

China, Boomers should be the gold medal match unless South Korea has a strong team to upset China in their group, unlikely. Boomers are definitely finishing on top of group A.

I am not sure what benefit the Asia Cup is to our national team. We send out a bunch of guys who largely have no realistic hope of making a full strength Boomers team and we run them against teams that would struggle in the NBL1. It's about as Mickey Mouse as international tournaments get.

Yeah well there might be some small value for an under 23 team but by taking the tournament half-serious we do ourselves a disservice. We should either do it for development of players or we should do it to assert our dominance in the region. If we're not doing either of those then there's no point.

If we lose, people are going to say that we needed a more talented squad, if we win, bring an u23...

Every major tournament should be treated with respect and the points from winning this asia cup help a lot in the world ranking system. Gets us closer to Spain seeing asthough they are unlikely to win eurobasket.
