Deng Acuoth signs for Adelaide 36ers

Announced this afternoon on the 36ers website

Adelaide 36ers are excited to announce the signing of Deng Acuoth for the NBL23 season.

The 211cm centre heads to Adelaide after an off-season which saw Acuoth shine on the world stage as part of South Sudan's rapid rise into 2023 FIBA World Cup qualification contention.

As the starting centre, Acuoth averaged 8.1 rebounds and 5.7 points per game in South Sudan’s perfect 6-0 record so far in the qualification process, a team which includes now teammate Sunday Dech.

Adelaide 36ers head coach CJ Bruton says Acuoth is the perfect piece for his new-look NBL23 roster.

"Deng gives us rim protection and will also give us that extra edge off the bench," Bruton said.

He's not going to be much of an impact player for this team and the signing leaves questions around rim protection that may be hard to answer. But there's no such thing as a perfect team or a perfect line up. And Adelaide has done very, very well this off-season.

Usually they say "this is the last roster spot" but they didn't this time?

Maybe just didn’t include that? Maybe because of Franks? Maybe because of DPs yet to be announced?

ME, how can you say he won't be much of an impact player? Given minutes and playing a clear defined role tailored to his skills (shot-blocking, rebounding, screens), who is to say he won't shine?

Acouth doesn't even need to work on other areas of his game he will likely only ever shoot the ball if wide open under the rim.

In a way, that last big man spot is our most important signing. Franks, DJ and Sotto will scare some teams offensively, but defensively it might the opposite. Really needed someone to add balance so hopefully he brings that and does well. Congratulations to him!

Nice roster, big upgrade. Let's hope CJ can get them gelling. Have to be a playoff contender surely.

Despite the big off season, do people still objectively have them as top 4 material? I think it's pretty even.

SEM, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne top 5 at this rate where any could finish anywhere there.

Brisbane might join to make a top 6.

"Best constructed Sixers roster in a long time." Not the first time that's been said.

Everything that's come out is consistent with a Euro team expressing interest and being knocked back, so what more would you expect to hear? He's playing until something officially says he isn't.

Not sure why Franks hasn't arrived in Adelaide, and there doesn't seem to be any news on when he is coming or why he hasn't yet.

I posted a link to an article regarding an interview with Franks which states he's preparing for the upcoming NBL season.

Here it is again:

"He's playing until something officially says he isn't." There you have it. KR says it's so.
