Sixers vs Hawks : FINAL RESULTS

Farley, Holmes and Forman played well for the sixerbut Rychart was guarded well tonight by Ballinger and Maher was not his regualr self. Wollongong's DDDD was just too much for us. Our defence was pretty soft in the end. And guess what, Nick Hambour was SEEN on the court, i repeat he was on the court. And he did a good job with a few mins to spare 4 straight points when he got on. In the end 112 - 94

Oh well lets now turn our focus to the tigers.

maher is in a funk, overall that was a really bad game from us (i'm just going by stats) i did not expect us to loose by such a big margin, we have to get the tigers now or we can start to slide on the table.

How good was Reesy? 5/6 from the field for 10 points and 7 boards. AND he got to sit on someone from the opposition. A dream game for Reesy.

Superb third quarter from Willie, good shooting from Oscar, but pretty average games from Brett (looked a bit sick even?) and Dusty. Good to see Hambour get on the scoreboard.

Cooper's early turnovers really set us back. He had a great block against Rampton though.

10th straight game where Oscar has scored in double-figures off the bench: 13, 17, 16, 11, 11, 11, 14, 13, 11, 17. Bit more consistent than last year.

Not a good result tonight but Wollongong played extremely well and hit 16 three pointers. Their defence on Maher and Rychart was excellent.

Oscar shot really well and Willie had a great second half after Groves couldn't miss in the first. Matt Campbell and Adam Ballinger also killed us, and we never found an answer to Adam Caporn's penetration.

Maher wasn't great tonight: he's still not looking 100% health-wise and could probably do with a game off. Rees did a credible job when he was on. Brad Hill hustled well but missed some gettable shots, as did Holmes. Good to see Hambour get some time and make a couple of shots.

Nash didn't play after half-time and wasn't even on the bench so I would suggest that he's done his back, or his hip, or his jaw. From the rumours I have heard the Sixers can cancel his contract if he misses anymore games with injury and I believe it is time to do just that. Enough is enough, and he is currently doing nothing but through off the team's rotations at guard and forward.

The game was no disgrace tonight, Wollongong just played much better.

he can still play well at times, just drop him in the rotation. He is a player that could be handy come playoffs.

The second quarter killed us. The Hawks shot the lights out in that quarter - 6/9 from three point range and they missed 2 in the last 2 minutes of that quarter when they were up by 20!

Huge game against the Tigers. We win this one and it will go a long way towards locking up second spot as we get the split on them. And I'm hoping and praying that we finish either 1 or 2 with this ridiculous finals system, because even if we finish 3rd we could be knocked out in one game in the same fashion as last season.

It looked like Nash injured his ankle during the game, but he played on a bit after that, not sure if that is why he didnt return later in the game or if it indeed was his ongoing back problem?

Makes Saturday's game with the Tigers crucial. If they lose, they drop to third on the ladder.

Who am I kidding, that's where I expect that they will be at the end of the year anyway :-(

Then we'll play Wollongong or Brisbane here and get kicked out of the playoff's in one game again...

I think Ballinger is the most under rated player in the L. Love his work ethic, rebounding and efficiency. He is very Dusty-like, but taller and with more range.

If we had one extra guard (Newley!!!) I would love to see Dusty and Ballinger and Rees on the same team. We would shoot 60% from the floor and no one would be able to get a rebound. Those guys would be boxing each other out.

16 threes! Were they open, or did they just light up?

Bit of both. There was one instance where Campbell was on the wing, having hit something like 3/4 or 4/5 threes, and the Sixers defenders both ran AWAY from him into the paint. He knocked down the shot, and finished with 6/8 threes.

They played close one-on-one defense on the perimeter which made it difficult for Maher, and that seemed to be a major difference to me.

I think the sixers really struggled defensively last night. They couldn't contain penetration through the keyway and both Groves and Caporn were drawing the second defender everytime to kick it out to the open man.
Groves was unstoppable in the first half as well and they did shoot the lights out. They were shooting the rock at about 60% from beyond the arc.
I think the refs let a lot go as well, there were a few times when Jacob got fouled and they didn't call anything. Sav was getting away with murder! I guess that's what happens when your coach constantly whinges about the refs being against them...

The 2nd quarter killed us. We looked a lot worse than what the stats suggest. It appeared we never had a chance by the difference in how we were playing the way Wollongong were playing. They certainly looked far superior. In actual fact we outscored them in the second half of the game. If only we played the first half that way, we would have won the game. How many fouls did everyone pick up that were not called? The officiating was attrocious. Farley complained to the ref about a call against him, not to dispute it but to say the same thing is happening at the other end. The ref didn't deny it but admitted to him that he must have missed it. That sort of officiating went on all game.
