@luuuc - each of those were good shots for both those players but not dropping. both getting to good spots on the floor to take them. And actually looked like creating something.
I disagree that the shot selection from both of them was ideal for the circumstance.
What I will say is that both are attacking players and both are prone to errors when playing their natural games. And we need to be ok with that to a degree, because if you're not going to let them play the way that got them selected in the first place, they might as well not be there. They are both 100% worthy of being there.
It's no different with Sami. She's loose with the ball at times as well, and has the green light to take shots you wouldn't want most players taking. You need players on the team who are able and, just as importantly, willing to do that. And you need to wear the fact that their percentages will often suffer as a result. Because it's for the good of the team overall.
You can't have nobody willing to take a shot when things get tough.
But none of that means we need to deny the reality of what we saw.
There were some poor decisions. Shit happens. It would be nice if shit happened a little less often, but mostly I think what the team needs now is more good stuff to happen so that the shit doesn't hurt so much.
Smith, Magbegor, Borlase, Melbourne all have plenty of improvement up their sleeves compared to last night, just by turning in a normal game by their own standards. I'll probably add LJ to the list as well.
Hopefully in addition to Xs & Os, one of Sandy's focuses before France is reinforcing to her players - the younger ones in particular - that they are capable, that they need to keep playing to their own strengths knowing that things will click eventually, and that everyone still backs them to do that.
France destroyed the team that destroyed us, but on paper there's no reason we shouldn't be able to compete with them on Monday.
