36ers & the Blitz

With the NBL Blitz right around the corner, does anyone have any information on whether Jarell Martin will be playing or is he still looking at playing close to or just after the start of the season?

Sixers have done well in preseason tournaments in the past, better experimenting in this preseason and might have better season.

36ers just announced they signed Tom Kubank as an Nominated Replacement Player, so guessing Martin won't be ready to start the season?

Interesting. I wonder if this is also an image/PR move.

Don't know a lot about him but hardly looks a like for like replacement.

Yeah Kubank is a defensive three man. He's quite tall, but in no way someone who could help cover for Martin. It seems odd, because I would have thought Martin is the guy they might need an injury replacement for.

Is there a time frame on Martin ?

Will he be ready by Round 1?

Why bother with replacement at all when you have 11 man roster and DPs, and Martin might only miss one or two games?

I should have said congratulations to Kubank on opportunity though. Well done.

Nothing against Kubank ,well done ,if Martin is missing 1 to 2 games , hope so or else we will be missing finals again.

What I mean is, I don't understand why a DP wasn't just elevated assuming they were chosen ahead of Kubank in the first place? Does it give the team some more numbers for the Blitz maybe?

Think you'll find he is much better than the DP's, and whilst not a replacement for Martin, could actually provide something.

Sixers just announced on Facebook that Martin won't play at the Blitz and Kubank is his replacement. So I guess Mayen will play big minutes at the 4 and they’ll use Kubank to rest Dech at times.

Do we have an idea how long Martin is likely to be out?

Has he trained at all?

He looks about 130 kilos, did you see him the other night, Rucker's stop five, he’s been out for 8 plus months sitting at home eating all that Louisiana chicken. Sixers you have done it again. lol.

Don't know about that when I saw footage of Martin standing on the sidelines at practice, sweating profusely he looked the same size as last time. But wasn't on the court with the guys probably due to the knee recovery.

Nothing wrong with Rucker picking Martin in his Top 5, he's in the Top 5 players in the league based on his past production with the Kings.

Jarell Martin's NBL stats:

2020-21 - 17.9 ppg @ 50% FG (40% 3pt), 6.9 rpg

2021-22 - 15.8 ppg @ 52% FG (38% 3pt), 8.4 rpg

Martin also averaged 16.3 ppg @ 74% FG & 11.3 rpg in the GF series against Tasmania.

I didn't say he couldn’t play, but he looks massive and a friend up there told me he looks 130 kilos, now he’s a big man but he’s not going to be affective at that weight.

Well I've seen footage of him arriving at the airport I was surprised how good he looked given he's 6'10" and inactive for the last 6 months or so, along with the footage of him standing on the sidelines at training and to me he didn't look any different to his time at the Kings.

Yeah I agree Zodiac. I saw him on the sidelines recently and he looked fine to me. Seriously doubt he is 130kg. Sixers update said it is a foot injury. So not his knee at least, but perhaps a setback from trying to get his body back in shape during preseason?

I'm disappointed they couldn’t find a better injury replacement for him though. Kubank isn’t a like for like replacement and they need more big man depth until he gets back.

I'm getting from someone up there, hopefully I’m being given bad information but I thought he looked huge across the lower half of his torso.

Up there as in Sydney? Someone might be feeding you dodgy info because they've got an axe to grind, Vasiljevic, Martin etc.

I admit I haven't seen him in a basketball uniform yet but he didn't look noticeably bigger in casuals at the airport or in Sixers training standing on the sidelines. I'm sure he's not in game shape and carrying a bit extra, which would be understandable.

The thing is though, I wouldn't be surprised if he was around 130kg in peak shape. What is he, 6 feet 10? Builty like a brick S house. He is a big guy.

Martin ruptured his patella tendon in early December- long layoff, hopefully he's ready to play soon. The 36ers will struggle without him.

Unless he did another injury since then?

Martin is listed at 108 kilo, that's what he was in his kings days. I’m looking forward to see him play, eventually.

36ers really can't afford to have Martin out for the start of the season proper, and it’s not even ideal to have no preseason game time.

I really hope it’s not yet another season of digging a hole too deep to get out of....

Martin is in a moon boot, Hooley saying he won't be starting the season, he’s not 130 kilo but I’ve just seen him side on, he’s 128. :::))))

Sword plays taller than he is, Roth playing around with his roster.

31-15 Sixers at 1/4 time. Hooley give Sixers coach a big rap, they look well drilled, there back up 4-5 do need strengthening though. Roth just letting everyone play.

Dech reminding me a bit of a Royce O'Neale type role it looks like. Won't take any shots other than corner 3's or a fast break, but he'll play solid D and hopefully shoot the ball well enough he can punish a team if they decide to play off him.

Michael Randall reporting could be 4-6 weeks before Martin is available.

I wonder if this just simplifies the plan for Adelaide to bring in a third import now, and then cut someone else once Martin returns?

Also makes you wonder what was wrong with signing Patterson even if temporarily knowing Martin would be out.

Geez can't afford that. They need to bring a good import in ASAP

KET they were saying on the broadcast the Sixers have 40 names on the list for replacement, also saying they may be waiting for NBA training camps to conclude to see who is cut or doesn't get the deal they were looking for.
