SEM v JJs @ Launceston 7.30 pm

This should be a very good game, will SEM players get behind new coach smith, he certainly comes across a lot tougher than there previous coaches or go back to offence only game style. JJs will play hard they always do. Two average defenders in Hurt v Deng could be interesting. Magnay v Hunter, both tough will be good. Can Sobey play two team first games in a row, will Sword keep improving. Lots of good match ups in this game. Imo JJs D will get them home but SEM could also sneak this. JJs by eight.

It is being played at the Silverdome where zero high standard games have been played. The hoops are so tight a 30ft rebound is the norm. It won't be a good game.

They have dismantled the entire court at My State Bank arena iincluding hoops and taken it all up to Launceston and reassembled at the Silverdome for these 2 games. That was the compromise with NBL head office for games to be played there this year given the Tas State Government had not fulfilled its promise to upgrade to NBL standard. So, none of the issues from previous years now. Surprised the NBL commentators don't know this as they kept carrying on with the narrative of past seasons during the Kings game.

I heard the same, but the rims were really tight in the first game there this season, balls that would normally dropping in rimming out, looked quite different from in Hobart, so I do wonder whether the baskets actually made the trip up.

Hoss Masters suggested on SEM Tassie Breakfast this morning that the rims at the Silverdome were the same that were used at the Westbury Recreation Centre in the 1980s. I tend to agree with him.

Both sides mistake ridden and no time outs called. Glover starting is a good move, Hurt is an out and out scorer but again defensively is out of position so often.

Sobey 1-6 after hitting his first shot. SEM are not playing finals, King got lot work to do, the roster is very unbalanced. Sobey back to iso. Hunter been ok, Hurt offensively good but in foul trouble early due to his bad D. Glover been ok, Lewis sensational dunk. Hooley got no idea.
JJs just doing what JJs do, they will play finals, all players contribute though Magnay like Hurt on two fouls early. They lead by 7.

Has anyone noticed how while the Phoenix bench is usually in chaos, Majok just sits at the end quietly lol. For some reason I find it very funny

True or false - if Sobey want playing, SEM would be in front at 3/4 time??

I thought Wieskamp would be better than he's been, same for Sword. Who from SEM put the idea together that D doesn’t matter we will just score more than the other side has now left the building and one soon to leave. I’m enjoying the game in spite of the mistakes.

True.

Magnay gets away with more holding than Kuol. Refs got onto Kuol, time they caught up to Magnay

Weird of Milton to pull up so far away and chuck it when there was still a good 2.5-3 seconds on the clock.

Weird shot choice from Doyle there, had some more time to get closer to the hoop. Ugly game, but the Josh King era starts with a W

Nice win to SEM, Hurt under a good coach could be very good, he just looks lost out there at times, certainly on D. Nice finish by Wieskamp as well. Much better second half from Sobey, actually all SEM starters were very useful, Kenyon added a bit as well.

JJs, what's going on, even Roths coaching and subbing seems strange, Magnay was good but as I said gets away with a lot imo. Stiendl can score but still can’t play D, if Doyle or Crawford can’t score 40 between them they can’t win. If there was a draft I’d say JJs were tanking.

How things change.

SEM have had a tough fixture, coach change, and suddenly they're 4-6 and looking alright.

Mackinnon did an awesome job getting this SEM team understanding how to play tough basketball. They grinded out a win tonight where they would have dropped away earlier in the season.

Liked the way King put Hurt in the corner after their last time-out, made Magnay chose between protecting the rim or covering the best shooter on the court. JJ's probably should have changed that match-up coming out of the TO.

It is like Roth wants the players and franchise to experience hard times and he is on record saying that is something that is going to happen at some point. Well it looks like that is now. They are playing basically one import and one high level local down plus MacDonald still being out. You can't polish up that many rough diamonds all at once to bridge the gap. I don’t know why you sacrifice the season when you have otherwise such a great core of a roster to work with. I don’t know how long they wait or how much more they want to see before they pull the trigger. It is also just shows how important McVeigh and MacDonald were to this team. They could cover in 2022 and 2023 for Magnay being out but they can’t cover in 2025 for those 2.

Surprised the NBL commentators don't know this as they kept carrying on with the narrative of past seasons during the Kings game.

They don't do any research and are also preoccupied with rote learning the company line from headquarters. Mute.

Maybe they figured "If it's good enough for Rillie it's good enough for us"?
