Hawks at phoenix

I'm expecting a good game here, can hawks keep going at their very high level, can SEM play decent enough D to keep in it. Hawks probably to strong but hopefully a close contest.

Sobey 0-4 in four minutes, early days but SEM look in trouble

You're lucky to get one good Sobey game from every five.

This won’t be the 'one’ this evening.

Sobey off, foxwell on and SEM back in it. Horrible pick up.

Phoenix need to cut Sobey at quarter time. He is unbelievably bad.

Even the commentary have finally said something about how bad he's been, such a selfish player. Hurt defensively again is terrible and at present not scoring.

Like clockwork Sobey is off and Phoenix get back in the game

As soon as he's on bench, he’s on 3 fouls SEM get back in it, Hurt making a few shots as well.

52-59 to hawks. SEM got box out and stop second chance points, good fight back by them. Hawks look like just ready to put foot down when required, their D better than SEM though neither side been great. Peatling been very good, plus 26 at the half. Will the coach shoot himself foot and play Sobey, minus 17. Lewis also minus 17.

If Sobey really is that bad, wouldn't he regularly be near the bottom in +/-? Wouldn’t that be a pretty good indication of his 'value’ to the team?

He's certainly at bottom today, I’d say over season would not be good either.

The game is close, we're getting near the end ... time to sit Sobey before he tries to play hero-ball again.

Classic Sobey hero play with one minute left. Dribble dribble dribble missed layup. Hawks score at other end, get it back to two.

That was a strange final play, surely don't get Harvey to inbound?

What happened to the goal tending call that was not allowed. Conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this one considering Scott Butler "didn't want to comment". That’s his only job!

I'd say Harvey was supposed to get it back, SEM D held up. Really enjoyable game. There locals were very good, Hunter, Glover, Foxwell, Hurt and Wieskamp chipped in. This coach looking the goods, be interesting when he puts his own team together. Is Sobey good enough to cover the rubbish, I don’t believe so, they would be better cutting there losses now, they got plenty guards.
Hawks favourites on Thursday to win comp, back to field today. Peatling the best. Every one else certainly not up to the standard of Thursday after a really good start.

Agree there's big question marks about sobey but I think Walton jnr is more important. If he's creating and scoring then these guys can beat most teams without having sobey on the court. And I can't see him filling the bench for the rest of the season

Didn't see what encompassed he goaltender call, but if Butler didn’t want to comment then the on-court call was wrong.

They got the call right, the refs reviewed it, it didn't have to go to the outside review. The swani hit the net. Sometimes the commentators just got shut up, Copeland was ok, Santa average and Montagna has no idea, imo.

Very disappointing game and result for the Hawks. They threw that one away. Every once in a while, Hawks forget to play defence and make mediocre teams look like superstars. It happened a few weeks ago against Cotton-less Perth and it happened again yesterday.

Hawks just stood off and allowed SEM to shoot themselves into form. They also stood off and allowed SEM (particularly Foxwell) to just run through them over and over again. They won't win many defending like that. Swaka Lo Bulok had a shocker at both ends. Hickey was pretty bad too. Not getting a shot off on that last play was inexcusable. A really bad loss. That’s the kind of game you have to win if you’re a legitimate challenger.

Very good interview with Smith, said he plays who is performing, which he did to a certain extent but obviously wasn't watching Sobey chuck up rubbish and fall over to leave his team short defensively. Interesting what is happening with Walton jnr though.

Hawks got beaten in the five spot by Hunter which was surprising, both Froling and Olbrich were down on form. Hickey has dropped back a bit on performance as well. Day is a bit liability on D as well. Still can win it but so can about 6 sides.

Maybe the first third of Walton Jnr's season with Sydney I'd say the fan base was pretty strongly against his style of play and excessive turnovers. Once he got into his comfort zone however he was one of the best guards in the league.
