Sixers @ Tassie 7:30 aedt 10/01/25

Looking forward to this one, Tassie coming off back to back losses and now without both MacDonald and Magnay, still think they're capable of top 4 though. Look out for Nick Stoddart to get some run.

Adelaide coming off back to back wins and a W tonight would be big for their playoff chances. They’ve also nominated tonight for their summer shootout game

Should be a good one, for the first time this season I’m tipping against Tassie at home, and saying Adelaide by 4.

Tasmania usually a good thing at home, but they're giving up a lot of size in this one.

Both teams needing a win to enhance finals chances. Even money for the bookies. Should be a beauty.

If not for Sunday's game in Tassie when SEM put them to the sword, I would've said Sixers not much chance but after that if Adelaide are serious they should get this and comfortably.

I think this is their most important game of the year. Win this, and they get another road win to balance out those home losses, and it gets easier mathematically. In saying that, are Perth and SEM going to drop enough games? I guess all you can do Is keep winning.

I don't think we should be so confident based on last two and Tassie outs. Roth will have something up his sleeve, and got to remember how big a home game it is for them too being in danger of missing out. Massive challenge topping them at home when equally desperate. Adelaide have to keep overwhelming teams with talent.

Whether Doyle and Crawford hit shots will have a huge bearing on this result. If they get hot JJs probably win. Adelaide need to work them into the ground given the lack of guard support.

I don't see Tassie dropping this one, it’s too important for them they’ve lost a few recently and they don’t do that consecutively at the business end of the season. Plus they’re at home.

Adelaide on the other hand feels like they always lose the business end of the season games if they’re in with a chance.

Adelaide should win this.

No Magnay or Macdonald. Adelaide have their full roster available except Dech.

Adelaide's season really hinges on this game. Lose it and it's a long road back to the play-in. Win and they're right there.

Harrell, as much as he's been a douchebag and has tickets on himself, has been a force inside the paint. No Magnay provides an opportunity for him and Humphries.

And at the other end, Macdonald's absence is huge and will hamper JJ's efforts at stopping Davis and DJV.

I respect Roth immensely but there's a serious talent gap in this game.

And Adelaide's been decent- when they've had their main guys which they do tonight.

JJs slightly favourites, should be a good game, they still got weapons in Crawford and Doyle, the rest do their bit and Deng is always dangerous. For Sixers to win Humphries will need to be at his best and get good service. Davis always dangerous and a gun but JJs just know how to win and Roth knows how to work the refs politely. JJs also so good at home, JJs by three.

I think there is a chance Roth just plugs and plays Stoddart for MacDonald so not to mess with what has been working. If so, a huge opportunity for him and I think he might surprise. Hummer is an X factor. Should be cherry ripe now and has guarded similar size and talent in euro ball. Expect Deng to play a lot at the 5 to stretch the floor and Doyle to have the job to blanket DJV. Roth will have a plan for Davis probably similar to what was executed against PJC in denying possession in the back court. Otherwise the JJs will just do what they do and Doyle and JC probably get better looks against this D. Must win for both teams as others have noted. Looks like a completely changed REF lineup after what happened in that SEM game. This will be a really good test for the 36ers against proper D in what will be a loud finals like atmosphere at MSBA.

Ita not stupidity. It's not like Lat Mayen thought he threw a good pass, it’s just capacity to deal with pressure and being unorganised in certain situations, which ironically might have killed their season after being 99% organised and non-complacent for majority of game. Not securing a rebound when you have size advantage, failure to get ball in KDs hands. It’s probably the reason Adelaide despite having talent, aren’t a top 6 team. Any trip to Tassie is tough, and I just knew Roth had something. He really empowers his players.

A lot of bad errors on and off the court to close that out for Sixers. Coach is in love with Rasmussen but last night was a game Marshall should've played. Bad teamwork by Sixers at the end, not helped by poor lineups by coach. Harrell no body contact at all on Deng on last play, letting Deng slip away where he wanted to go and get open. Humphries got dragged outside. Poor defence on the inbound.
Last jump ball should've been a foul.
Worst was the last couple mins of regulation where the game should've been iced. Cadee showing why he should be parked for Marshall.
Did all the work to be in front only to let it slide away under pressure from jj's.

It's a pity as Mayern played so well, his D was good to excellent and his O good, has to keep shooting and they will go in, just wrong decision at games end. He’s been a lot better than I thought. Certainly a decent local to keep. He now needs experience so must keep giving him minutes, certainly as season is realistically over. DJV was no where near his early season form since injury which hurt big time, he has to improve his D. He’s certainly no Goulding yet, maybe coaching. Sixers should chase Delly for next season, while I think Davis is a magnificent player and close to mvp, he needs a floor general to help. Delly would have Humphries scoring 20 plus a game and help DJV become a shooter and not a chucker.

Is it the start of the regular season or 1 July etc. Stodart turn 25 on June 27 so unless it is before then he will need to be on the main roster next season. Got to remember that Dech is still out and Marshall has been benched, Adelaide already lack depth, so have to give minutes to someone.

Why not just scrap these DPs and have larger rosters? For instance, I couldn't work out why we had DPs, but Tom Kubank was an injury replacement player.

Reply #957444 | Report this post

Earlier this month

DP's are only part-time players hence not on the 11 man roster, cost saving measure for NBL teams. Kubank was signed as an injury replacement player (like Rigoni was last season) which was really a lack of confidence in the DP's Rasmussen, D'Arcy and Ipassou. Rasmussen has changed that now even playing ahead of Marshall.

Writing appears to be on the wall for Marshall, still has a year to go on his contract but clearly Wells doesn't rate him and if he returns as coach next season Marshall might want to move on.

I've never understood the fascination with Marshall other than for a few years there he was the only Adelaide boy on the roster. That's changed now with Mayen, Griscti and Rigoni.

After four years with the Sixers and showing not much of anything especially this season with the high minutes, until now, it might be time for Marshall to move on.

Imo his contract would have had clauses re turning up fit to play, he didn't and still isn’t. Sixers just never seem to get it right, SEM looked at him and got Hurt instead.

I don't think it would've. In all my time following the NBL it's been said once imports have played in the NBL before any new contracts after their first year are fully guaranteed just like locals. As Martin has played in the NBL before and the Sixers knew they were 'buying' an injured player, bad luck for us.

It's been said Martin got injured a second time by the Sixers support staff trying to rush him back and that program caused an ankle injury to happen, on top of the existing knee injury he did in Turkey last season. Whether true or not I don't know but I still maintain Martin looked in better shape when he first arrived in Adelaide as opposed to when he eventually made his debut.

The Sixers were weighing up Cheatham or Martin and when Cheatham signed in Japan we then went with Martin who DJV probably went into bat for.

Sorry, I will simplify what I mean upon reading again. Marshall could have been playing minutes this season because Wells does rate him, and it could also be the case that Wells was convinced to bench Marshall in a coaching intervention type scenario. Weston might have been high on encouraging minutes for Marshall, but Wells benched him too. Just saying, the whole crisis meeting scenario might have influenced rotations either way you look at it.

I think the switch to Rassmussen over Marshall is purely a defensive one. Shortened the rotations, someone has to lose minutes and it's been Marshall because while offensively he's shown some stuff, he can't stop anyone on the other end.

Marshall has been the great local hope for the last few years, even Scotty had the mandate to play him more at the end of last season. He shows flashes but not much more. I wonder how the infamous meeting turned into him having DNP's immediately. Rasmussen may have those young guys hustle plays, but not enough to make Marshall sit entirely. Time for him to more on and try and be another reclamation case for Cairns or Tassie.
And I've seen people get decent gaol time for stealing less money than what Martin has taken this year. Just another case of the Trainwreck that Adelaide are signing a player that if he was in the Melbourne cup would have had the screen put around him. And while he was good with Sydney I don't think he was outstanding. And if he was on DJs wishlist, they really need to tune him out. Even if they did have to pay his apparent large contract out, surely there'd be a budget guy out there that would contribute more, in hindsight it may have been better keeping Starling although it would have been a bitter pill to swallow.
I really wonder how Adelaide are going to stuff it up again next season, there's not much left that they haven't done already.
