The Challenge System is Broken

The whole point of resuming with a jump ball is you don't know what would have happened if the whistle hadn't gone.

-If a challenge is unsuccessful, just resume as per the original call. I cannot believe someone has to actually point this out.
-If a challenge is successful, and one team has a clear right to the ball, give them the ball. Tassie should have got it both times last night. Henshall should have retroactively been called for a travel in Illawarra. There are many times someone comes up with a rebound even before the ref has a chance to blow the whistle.

Yes it's a good concept but needs a bit tinkering.

A "challenge" is a challenge on the call. If the challenge is successful, the Made call can be cancelled. NOT reversed. So neither team is entitled to the possession. Hence the toss!

Agree it is crazy. Understand what's written but what has happened to common sense and fair play

would love the NBL to provide some clearly written, understandable clarification

I re-read it. Still don't think you made that point.

This is what you wrote. "If a challenge is successful, and one team has a clear right to the ball, give them the ball."

That just isn't right. Maybe the way it should be, but not the way it is.

If we are saying the same thing, Sorry for the comments. No harm intended.

@NBLComms
The NBL will make an immediate adjustment to its rules which will ensure all unsuccessful coach's challenges result in the play resuming from the point of interruption as though the challenge was never called.

On review of the unsuccessful coach’s challenge for the foul call on Montrezl Harrell during the rebounding contest in Friday night’s match between Tasmania and Adelaide, the game was correctly restarted with a jump ball due to the lack of team control. With this change, that play situation would now result in Tasmania receiving the ball at the closest throw in location.

Kobe was saying it's how it should be not what the rule was, hence the system is broken title.

These type of systems can be tough for a flowing sport like basketball but to the extent we can get common sense I’m all for it.

In my view - the team that should have the ball out of the scenario should get it (ie like Kobe says and like the NBL has now changed)

I also think generally the review shouldn’t be overly semantic - it should be a chain of play as best we can discern that reasonably

They've only addressed the first point, not the second.

Currently even with the new change it still stops at the whistle. What happens after the whistle is irrelevant.

Yep. As discussed in the fourth quarter of the Sydney game today. Should've been Kings ball after the successful challenge, because the whistle had no impact on Sydney coming up with the ball.
