Deng out for the JJs

That makes 3 who could be starting 5 out of the line up. Have DPs now playing significant minutes.

Know the mantra for the JJs is next man up but damn it makes it tough now.

JJs might still find a way, knowing them, but geez the door is wide open for Brisbane and Adelaide! You'd think the top 5 are pretty close to finals bound but it could be a great battle for that last spot.

His loss of scoring will be the biggest loss, I still think JJs will finish sixth and then you never know. I'd be thinking a few sides will be cheering form them to miss play in all together.

Big loss Deng lighting up Harrell was the reason Tasmania beat Adelaide.

Think New Zealand win with PJC coming back.

JJ's to finish 6th, United 3rd or 4th

JJ's win, United loses.....

Dean Vickerman's worst nightmare!

In that case if Melbourne win their first finals game they avoid the JJs until the GF.

Hence why I said "JJ's win, United loses...."

United has plenty of time to turn it around, but they've been very shaky lately.

They're one of the few healthy teams, they've won a couple of nail biters against teams with injuries (Sydney, NZ) and had a very unimpressive win in Cairns where the teams combined to miss countless open shots.

Arguably the Sydney win was a strong victory, but they almost threw that one away.

Haven't played a strong 4 quarter performance in ages.

As I said, there's time. But right now things are far from positive.

Roth just said in the Presser, Deng now probably out for the season with that ankle injury.

The congested fixture didn't help.

If Deng has a grade 1 ankle that is usually a 1 to 3 week injury. Roth said 2 to 3 weeks which could mean a return around 29 January or 5 February. On those dates he could in theory be back for the last 3 games. Think Deng has had trouble coming back from ankles before though. Regardless, this may be a wait and see. Would change complexion a bit if both he and Magnay are back for some or all of those last 3 games and post season (should they make it).

Even if Magnay and Deng are back for the last game v Cairns that could be huge. It's looking like two more wins get the JJs in, that last game could be the decider provided they can pinch one more in the meantime.

JJs are -52 and 36ers -92 on points differential. That 40 point difference could close quickly if the JJs have a bad loss and 36ers have a good win. I expect if the 36ers can win 3 and JJs just the one then 36ers probably make up that points differential. So, JJs probably do need to win at least another 2. On last nights performance, 36ers should go close in all their remaining games. But both teams are capable of producing wildly unexpected results like when they played the other day. I think those last 3 games are where the JJs have the best chance to get a couple of wins. As we know Magnay is huge both offensively and defensively. They can hold teams to scores in the 80s with him back and it is then just whether they can score more. MSBA and JCA are also huge for the JJs in those final 3 games.
