Illawarra @ Cairns 23/01

Hard to see Cairns repeating the result from a couple of weeks ago.

Hawks got plenty to play for to lock up top spot on the ladder, but will they go for the kill with Cairns looking to keep them under 111 for the Shootout.

Surely Illawarra will be more focused on the big picture and just focussed on the win. Unless they're plenty up in the last qtr I don't think they'll risk the result to go for the score. If the result is beyond doubt things might be different.

Interested to see how Cairns respond after Adam Forde's postgame comments. Hopefully they put up a fight.

I agree, hawks will be out to make sure they win, anything else is a bonus. Cairns are very Jekyll and Hyde, have ability but only show up occasionally. Might be closer than table position indicate, if hawks get foot on throat early taipans could crumble but if taipans get rolling it'll be game on. Can taipans play D in long stretches, I’m not convinced, hawks by 15 in a high scoring game.

If I'm Cairns I’m slowing the tempo down this game for both reasons.

I'm not certain taipans have ability to slow it down, or play the D to do it. Should make for an interesting contest.

AHT is the best development player I've seen in a while, excellent find by Cairns

Game on, hawks certainly not winning the 50k though. Peatling huge in the fight back, Froling very average. Harvey on D even worse.

From 22 down to a tie ball game, credit hawks for fighting back

Wasn't initially sold on him but Groves has been a very nice signing. Know he’s one of your favourites Dunkman

=Cracking game, good bit of fun to watch that one as a neutral.

=Shoutout to all the cairns starters who responded to Fordes comments last week

=Higgins-Titsha will be a star in this league for years to come

=Taipans can definitely play spoiler for a few teams down the stretch here

=On the other side shoutout Blanchfield for turning back the clock

=The 5 people who selected Cairns to win the summer shootout scoring 111 should all buy a lottery ticket, who'd have thought cairns might win the summer shootout!

Groves is exactly what my fives should be, he's a little undersized but he’s tough. Tatum certainly wasn’t happy with Froling, just sat him on bench, Olbrich was on four fouls but left him on bench far too late, Peatling worked hard but got fouled out as well. All cairns starters were good but hawks starters were ridiculously bad. Hickey, Blanchfield, Olbrich even Grida did fine, Peatling competed hard but his starter mates let him down. Cairns certainly deserved the win, maybe some cracks appearing in hawks D.

That was just yuck. Terrible letdown. There's no way they’re winning the championship with such a soft underbelly. Just no possible excuse for losing to Cairns twice this season. Pathetic.

I believe that now makes all 10 teams written off from winning the title this season.
Back to the drawing board for #NBL26 for everyone.

Todd Blanchfield, every time he comes up against us, makes an absolute pest of himself. Convinced he thinks when he plays us he's playing for the Crocodiles and this is another Reptile Rumble :)
