New Zealand v Brisbane 24 Jan

"Both teams are on the cusp of a Play-In berth and can't risk falling on the home stretch."

Not my words... it's the promo for tonight's game.

Both teams are on the cusp of "the wooden spoon" and can’t risk falling on the home stretch. is more like it. (and I hate to admit that!)

Anyone else still sickened the Breakers ruined any chance of long term success just for the novelty of having Tacko?

Embarrasing by Breakers management truly embarrasing.

Not great for NZ if they can't beat a team so ravaged by injury the NBL has literally created a new type of player contract for them

Not to bad a game, surprisingly. Tacko shoots free throws worse than Cooks, at a guess 25% or less, I just don't know what Breakers thought. Bullets having a go on back of Cook, Bannon and Prather. Bullets shooting at 44% and breakers 56% and breakers still behind by eight, just can’t see where breakers can win this.

Lowery is right, you don't have to make a call every time a player hits the floor, just play on, certainly if it’s not clear.

Lowery 100% right about Tacko, he just doesn't give you enough. Tacko just got whacked in the nuts, probably like tennis balls, Lowery the physiology doesn’t want go down there, I’m still laughing. Smith Milner got technical foul I think.

Entertaining game, if not that classy, if PJC could get the calls Cotton gets he'd score 10 more a game. Nice last quarter should go down here.

Tako can't give anything the way he's allowed to be defended. That said, he's not very creative in his attempts to seal or create space.

Aussie coaches at all levels would be able to relate to refs failing to manage extraordinary big players fairly.

Credit to Tohi Smith-Milner. Never been considered much of a player by most but has quietly put together a nice season of basketball

Mccaron must be laughing all the way to the bank when offered a two year contract by nz. He hasn't been good for years. Smith Milner has been very good all season, he has always been useful, Vanhoffe and Lowery been great commentary, commentate the game with a bit of humour.

Brisbane deserved the win in an entertaining game. Christchurch had the stadium full, it would be a good spot for an nbl team if they have the coin, back to back nznbl champions. Where to for the breakers, after such a great start to season and humming nicely, management blow the whole joint up. Brisbane still breathing only just.

Tacko doesn't and cannot work in our league. Shame on Breakers management for ruining their team’s season. Box score warriors might disagree, but any guard who has played at a decent level would love playing against Tacko.

Where has Tacko played that he's been successful, any thoughts.

Coach Kop saying that PJC looking out for rest season, stating it was a clear foul right in front of ref and no call, also stating that he's coped it all season. It’s been a complaint of mine all season and previous season, they call all soft crap on bigs inside but let guards get bashed all the way down the court. Call the grabs, arms wrapping around players and hand checks. Reward clean straight up D and not scraggers.

Fantastic win for the Bullets with little, actual consequences, for this season. Convinces me that with very little change, the Bullets are ready to leave mediocrity behind.

Saw the list of free agents and that scares me. Several of those free agents are bound to be targeted by others as they have been involved in the Bullets' (occasional) successes. Can management please start signing these guys? I am hoping that they want to see how far they can go together.

Bullets

Under contract: James Batemon, Tyrell Harrison, Josh Bannan, Mitch Norton, Tohi Smith-Milner (team option)

Free agents: Casey Prather, Keandre Cook, Josh Adams, Deng Adel, Sam McDaniel, Rocco Zikarsky, Isaac White, Jarred Bairstow, Callum Dalton

I'm not sure there would be high demand for the Bullets FA's other than maybe Prather and with his injury history teams would be trepidatious.

Of that group of FA's, I would want Casey Prather, Keandre Cook, Deng Adel, and Sam McDaniel back and Rocco Zikarsky still as a next star(?) or DP (also?).

Bullets could look like this;

1. Norton/Cook
2. Batemon/McDaniel
3. Prather/Adel
4. Bannan/Smith-Milner
5. Harrison/Zikarsky/?

That only leaves White, Bairstow and Dalton. Would like an up-grade at the 5 back-up, but Bear and Callum could do that with Harrison playing 30 mins. White can be insurance at either guard and "small-ball" centre.
