Hawks @NZ 5th February 5:30pm aedt

Hawks can more or less lock up 1st spot on the ladder with a win, while NZ will just be playing for pride to end a rough season on a high

Early start has done me over, just realised, score doesn't look like a good game happening. It’ll be first game I’ve not watched this season.

Not missing an exciting game Dunkman. Kell resting for Illawarra, big confrontation between coach Kop and Matt Mooney, who has been benched for this second half

Kop has done an excellent job, he's probably totally pissed off by the whole shenanigans and I don’t blame him, it’s worse than the Sixers.

Agreed Dunkman, as a rookie coach he couldn't have done much better given the absolute shit hand he was given. Let's not forget that he inherited a team already half put together by Mody. Let him build his own team next season and if management don't fuck him over, NZ will be competitive

What happened with Mooney?

I don't understand his appointment though. A Finnish coach who is still younger than some players, has very little previous coaching experience, and is somehow a better option for a NZ NBL team than a Kiwi or Aussie?

Derided, he and Kop had a heated verbal argument when Mooney came to the bench

Kop said, you play team first, it's his job to protect the team, it’s the right attitude. He said to much freelance basketball. God press conference

Definitely some reservations about Kop preseason, but he's a very good coach. You can even see Fall has made massive strides in his time here, although I still wouldn’t bring him back perimeter pick defence is not a good fit for NBL.

Mooney is a solid player but way too emotional for this league.

It's strange because Mooney said in an interview only about a week ago how much he wants to be next season that he and his wife love Auckland and if not wanted will at least try and stay in the NBL but hopes it's back at the Breakers.

I would expect to see a calmer Mooney next season if he does come back.

He'll be used to the league and the refereeing, and he won’t feel like he’s fighting for his contract.

It perplexes me that teams and their players agents don't counsel new imports to expect the niggle. Wagstaff , Loe, Norton come to mind as some of the best. But niggle and banter is just the Anzac way. You expect next stars to struggle with it, but seasoned pros should have the mindfulness to handle it.

A few imports get to the nbl thinking it's a two bob league and they’ll dominate only to realise it it’s not a cup cake league. They don’t like it and whine when don’t all go their way, still a lot good ones but not all.

Agree essenx too emotional but like pjc he cares about the team and wants to win. Hard to be too critical of that. I'd rather that than a more talented import who doesn't

When he was playing SG and getting good looks he was knocking shots down and his D was solid although not amazing. And coincidentally he wasn't getting the tough foul calls that he was getting in the second half of the season either

Probably a better option than taking a gamble on a new to the league import SG.
