Seems like a comprehensive list of the best 06 and 07 boys. Should be a strong squad.

Some tough decisions to make for sure.
Likely the most hyped currently... which means not necessarily the best performers at u20s.

I'll just go check Baselinehoops and see who the NBL is having kittens over to see who will be in the team, as that's how these teams are picked right?

big call but fingers crossed playing for a medal. are we better than one of USA, France, Canada, Spain or has the draw been kind?

is MR that good to be a triple bottom age player? is it better to accelerate a player or should they control her development in a different way. keen to hear from the hp coaches on here.

I thought they might have put a couple of other 09 guards into that squad, who are potentially better than some selected.

In the women's, USA, Canada, Spain and France are very strong. The other teams should be no match against a full strength gems.

I’m going with...

PG Perkins > Bond
PG Harvey > Lehmann
CG Hall > Dakic
SG Bobongie > Aherne
G/F Deas > Notoa
SF Finney > Petrie
SF Shiels > Russell
SF/PF Ryan > Hanson
PF Somfai > Bird
C/PF Fagan > Crook
C Williams > Waite
C Puoch > Portlock

No way you are taking Ryan over Notoa.

Just my opinion.
Notoas got a great bball iq but I'm not sure she’s suited to fiba ball.

Others that probably deserved a look are Smith(09)SG and Nightingale(06)PF

I like most of your team just those 2 switching and I'll take Lehman over Perkins. Just my preference.

@Weedy, I think you may be 100% on your early team. Unlikely this will come to fruition lol.

@Pinch, Perkins over Lehmann, all day every day. Perkins was one of the few that stood up in the U17 WC.

Lehmann is similar to Notoa where I'm not sure how her game translates to FIBA. Lehmann is a small forward in the body of a point guard (guessing 5’8).

Deas, Perkins, Hall, Bobongie, Harvey, Shiels and Finney make up an awesome group to play 1 through 3. The only weakness at international level looks to be the 5 man spot?

Probably, on paper, one of the strongest teams we’ve sent.

Hopefully, Hall makes herself available. She’s missed the last couple of national teams.

Perkins also mvp at the u20s.

I think Fagan and Puoch will get majority minutes at the 5. Probably a toss up between Williams and Waite as the next option, both good at different things. I think the other 5s are a tier below atm.

There is no way Harvey should be in this team after her AJC performance, 7 ppg at 23% and 7% from 3, 2.6 assists and 3.3 turnovers! Compare that to Crystal Thompson playing SG for SA: 13 points at 41% and 47% from 3. her not being invited to the camp is case in point that the selectors couldn't care less about performance.

Smells like some SA Country home cooking on this topic.
First Lehmann, now Thompson?

I agree Harvey was well below her best but she has the runs on the board.

Thompson just plays too out of control for my liking. I think that's what has held her back for the national set-up.

It’s a real issue with Australian basketball in general. So many of the players are loose with the ball.

Harvey did have a poor showing at ajcs but she was terrific at the tournament in the u.s.

Thompsons not really in the conversation for nt.

Thompson should be on the strength of her form at the AJC's. If the TOC tournament in the US is taken into account Cailie Hinder and Zoe Jackson should be walk u starters for the NT, both were considerably better than any of the COE bigs at that tournament.

Not sure what the deal is with Hinder, has some good college offers but hasn't been on the jnr n.t radar.
one to keep an eye on though... 6’6-6’7 C.

Is it possible she opted out of being on the n.t. radar?

Not sure, I believe she is 2007 born so she won't get another chance to play for jnr n.t.

Thompson, doesn't have a strong social media presence, nor is an arrogant player or has parents in the know, that's three strikes! Consistently outperforms many in NT squads and was on Lightning list this year, just another that has slipped through for some reason, or hasn't been pushed by some! Gotta have friends in the right places people. Basketball life.
