The Phantom
Earlier this month
NBA MVP
Didn't watch the game but just saw the stats of Denver Phoenix for my fantasy league. Jokic, 31 points, 21 rebounds, 22 assists, 3 steals!
Now I know SGA is favourite for MVP currently, I think they had an official poll a month ago and he'd taken the lead over Jokic. Now he's the best player on the best team averaging ridiculous stats as well, but if Jokic hadn't already won 3 MVPs, and arguably a 4th, he'd be overwhelming favourite this year, probably his best season ever. And his team is in the running for one of the top seeds in the west despite losing an important role player the last few years.
Jokic could go on a tear like this the rest of the year and he might overtake Shai again. And there's voting for a reason, but could jokic be robbed of what potentially have been 5 consecutive MVPs simply because voters want to share the award around. Ideally there should be co MVPs with the seasons both players have had. We could potentially be seeing one of the greatest performances of dominance individually since Jordan, even LeBron never had this run (that will spark controversy, fyi I don't buy into the goat arguments with those two because they are brilliant in different ways).
In summary, I'm just asking the question that Jokic could be robbed of another MVP just because voters want to share it around. If both players were removed from their teams, OKC would maybe be in the playin hunt, Denver would be in the Cooper Flagg hunt, hence who is really more valuable?
But today's statline is insane.
