Cairns sitting in the expected position.

I'm not sure the system works as it's supposed to.

Wow I'm surprised by some of those... JJs higher than I expected and kings much lower. Is kings reduced by injuries maybe??

Not sure I'm buying Olgun's 'cash spend' calculations on the Kings, we know Cooks is on $1.2M a season alone.

Re: Melb Utd how much of Goulding's salary is legit given he co-owns United's training gym with the team?

Zodiac, EVERY team has "salary" off the books through sponsors, owners, and wealthy supporters. Accommodation, vehicles, dining at certain restaurants, jobs for partners, clothing, holidays, shares in race horses. You name it. Just keep throwing mud at United though.

That Kings one is a little odd. They're 1 Cooks plus $100k above Cairns, I think?

If you took Cooks away from the Kings roster that has Adams, Oliver and co, would anyone expect that to be comparable to Cairns?

Odd!

How do we "know" Cooks is on $1.2m?

Incredibly hard to get any sort of read on these 'salaries'.

I know there are some rich owners and generous sponsors, but when you look at the scale against different sports, is someone like Cooks seriously on similar money to a Nathan Cleary or Marcus Bontempelli?

It's the figure that’s reported, NBL don’t report actual salaries. Most people are content to roll with the ball park numbers from NBL reporters.

" is someone like Cooks seriously on similar money to a Nathan Cleary or Marcus Bontempelli"

Remember basketball is global, there’s some serious $$$ in Japan where lots of players are getting paid better than the Bont.

If you’re going to draw him away from Asia you simply have to pay some serious coin

"How do we "know" Cooks is on $1.2m?"

It was rumoured that was the figure he signed for and then Olgun confirmed it in his article announcing the signing, only to remove the figure a few days later and replaced it with "largest contract in NBL history". Presumably the Kings/NBL didn't want that figure to be public knowledge so got Olgun to remove it from his article.

No need to take my word for it the $1.2M a year figure was common knowledge even before Olgun confirmed it, initially.
